مع ذلك، عرض ٳسرائيل اللجوء على زبانية اﻷسد وطائفته حصراً يعني أن ٳسرائيل تعترف "بأفضال" اﻷسد و نظامه عليها و تريد رد الجميل له و لضباط جيشه الغضنفر الذي سبق وأوكلت ٳسرائيل له مهمة لجم الشعب السوري و قمعه نيابة عن "جيش الدفاع اﻹسرائيلي". تماماً كما سبق ﻹسرائيل و استقبلت عميلها الآخر، أنطوان لحد هو وجيشه اللبناني الجنوبي بضباطه وجنوده مع عائلاتهم وحتى حيواناتهم الأليفة

بعرضها هذا تصرّح ٳسرائيل بأن اﻷسد و جيشه، ومن ورائهم طائفة بأكملها هي في طريقها لأن تؤخذ بجريرة عائلة مارقة، هم عملاء لها، قد تم اكتشاف خيانتهم و هاهي "أمهم الحنون" تعرض عليهم اللجوء ٳلى "وطنهم الثاني" في الجولان الذي ألحقته ٳسرائيل بها و تعتبره جزءاً من أرضها التاريخية. اﻷكيد أن جنود العدو لن يطلقوا النار هذه المرة على "ٳخوتهم في السلاح" من العلويين الفارين خوفاً من العقاب على الجرائم التي اقترفوها بحق مواطنيهم

بهذا التصريح تعطي ٳسرائيل ٳشارة خطيرة ٳلى الطائفة العلوية مؤداها أن مصير الطائفة رهن بمصير اﻷسد. ربما يكون لدى الموساد معلومات حول تململ الطائفة العلوية من جرائم اﻷسد وتخبطه ورغبة الكثيرين من شرفاء هذه الطائفة في النأي بأنفسهم عن نظام قاتل لا مستقبل له، ربما أراد "غانتس" من وراء خطابه هذا حض الطائفة العلوية على رص صفوفها خلف الأسد و تخويفها من انتقام الجماهير السنية في حال سقوط النظام

هذه التطمينات الإسرائيلية وفي هذا الوقت بالذات تأتي لشد أزر الحليف الأسدي وقاعدة حكمه العسكرية العلوية التي تدرك الآن أن "ظهرها مسنود" و أن الصديق الإسرائيلي موجود في وقت الضيق

لكن ما معنى أن تعرض ٳسرائيل اللجوء على علويي سورية حصراً في الجولان ؟ اﻷكيد ٳن ٳسرائيل نتانياهو، مع اعترافها بأفضال الأسد، لا ترغب في أن يختلط علويو سوريا الهاربين بمواطنيها من "اليهود اﻷنقياء" في "أرض الميعاد" لذلك تريد زرع علويي سوريا في الجولان و بهذا تحقق ٳسرائيل مجموعة أهداف استراتيجية لا يستهان بها

أول هذه اﻷهداف هو خلق "حزام شيعي" متصل من الجولان ٳلى المتوسط، يتشكل من أغلبية علوية سوف تستوطن في الجولان جنباً ٳلى جنب مع أقلية درزية في مجدل شمس، هذه المجموعة السكانية سوف تتناغم مع اﻷغلبية السكانية الشيعية في جنوب لبنان و الخاضعة لنفوذ حزب الله "المقاوم". يبدو أن إسرائيل تفضل "الزنار" الشيعي على شمالها لدرجة استدعاء علويي سوريا لحمايتها من خطر قيام دولة سنية في سوريا لن تسكت طويلاً على احتلال الجولان

هنا يكمن الهدف الثاني من إسكان العلويين في الجولان، فهؤلاء سوريون لن يقبلوا بالعودة لحضن الوطن ذي الأغلبية السنية خوفاً من المحاسبة، هكذا سوف توظف إسرائيل عملاءها من هذه الطائفة و من آل الأسد مرة ثانية و ستستفيد منهم سواء كانوا يحكمون سوريا أو كانوا لاجئين على أرض سورية محتلة وتحت حماية إسرائيلية في الحالتين. لا شيء مجاني لدى الدولة العبرية، إسرائيل سوف تتحجج بوجود هؤلاء اللاجئين السوريين لعدم إعادة الجولان بل وربما تنشئ لهم دولتهم العلوية الموعودة، لكن في الجولان وتحت حراب جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي "الصديق" تماماً كما كانت تخطط مع جيش لبنان الجنوبي ذي الأغلبية المسيحية

الغريب أن نفس الخطاب الذي أكد استعداد إسرائيل لاستقبال لاجئين من الطائفة العلوية، ناقش إمكانية أن يشن الأسد حرباً على إسرائيل "إن وجد نفسه في موقف صعب...". إسرائيل تعرض اللجوء على ضباط نظام يريد محاربتها !!

هناك تفسيران ممكنان لهذه الأريحية الإسرائيلية : الأول هو إصابة إسرائيل بحالة مرضية من الكرم والإنسانية المفاجئة بحيث تستقبل من يعلن عليها الحرب و تحميه من انتقام شعبه أيا كانت الظروف. هذه الإمكانية مستبعدة لأن إسرائيل ليست دولة مشهوداً لها بالكرم والجود

الاحتمال الثاني و هو الأقرب للمعقول : أن إسرائيل لا تستبعد منح نظام الأسد المتهاوي الفرصة للقيام بحرب مسرحية ضدها. هذه الحرب قد تمنح الأسد فرصة لالتقاط أنفاسه ولإحراج معارضيه. إن نجحت هذه التمثيلية ينجو الأسد ونظامه و تستمر لعبة الممانعة لجيل آخر، و إن فشلت، فقلب إسرائيل و أبوابها مفتوحة على الدوام لاستقبال حليف قديم هو و ضباطه و أفراد جيشه وعائلاتهم، لكن على أرض سورية محتلة

Today, under the burden of “fighting drugs” the United States are trying to create a loyal group of law enforcement agencies and special purpose units in the Central Asian states. One of the mechanisms of this process is CARICC – Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre on fight against drugs. All that the U.S. did in Central America in the 1970-1990′s: there training counternarcotics police later turned into a murderous death squads and civil wars for decades. Drug production in the meantime increased in proportion to American intervention. Today, the process of “Afghanization” Central Asia is gaining momentum and to the point of no return, there is very little time.

In foreign practice, the Obama administration’s entrenched certain tactical approach: hands of other states to act and conduct their own initiative as a multilateral mechanism of international organizations. Thus, the war was waged against Libya by France and the United States provided only “support” functions. The “New Silk Road” will initiate Turkey and the United States in its “neutral, but an enthusiastic companion” (1). League of Arab States, one after the other issues calls for the overthrow of the legitimate, but disliked the leaders of the United States. UN Security Council resolution against Syria in October 2011 put forward France, Britain, Germany and Portugal and the United States it is only “support” – in the company of Colombia, Nigeria, Gabon and Bosnia. As a pretext for the creation of such mechanisms, the United States are using the theme of “cooperation in areas of common interest.” The most plausible and persuasive cover serves as a “joint fight against drugs,” and this card is played out most actively against Russia and Central Asia. In recent months, Washington has coined especially mocking argument: his “war on drugs” they activate in response to concern about the implications of Russia “withdrawal” of troops from Afghanistan (in fact, no “O”, of course – a reduction of troops).

If the United States so concerned about drugs, why do they flatly refuse to fight drug production and drug trafficking in Afghanistan (4), and instead seek to “assist” Russia and Central Asian states in their territories? Training CARICC conduct “international experts with extensive law enforcement and managerial experience” (11).

U.S. sees CARICC as “very important and effective tool”, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton personally oversaw the development of the Centre (12). The pipeline wars are real wars, in that two or more nations are ordering their civilian and military foot soldiers, on a daily basis, into life or death contests to the finish. For the United States, it is a contest which must be won, if we are to survive, according to most of our national leaders. But is that really true? According to both civilian and military authorities, if we lose this war, then we lose “our way of life.” That may be true, but it does not mean the end of us as a free Republic. America will go on, even after the impending military defeat. We cannot win…We cannot be allowed to win, if victory means world conquest.

The next phase of action in the battle to smash greater Central Asia will probably be the most dangerous phase of the war (other than the final global conflagration, if there is to be one). The unfolding grand production will involve the usual mixture of open and covert measures, following a carefully choreographed ballet of geopolitical and geostrategic forces.

The real danger will arise out of the uncertainty factor that is inherent in all conspiratorial plans. The great danger will arise when the plan for total control double-crosses dictators who think they have been part of that plan. The uncertainty of their future reactions to threats to their survival is the sand in the wheels of the military machine. In nearly all cases, normal people can be counted upon to make the choices that seem to guarantee their survival, even if they contradict lucrative backroom deals that have been made with powerful individuals. Unhinged dictators may choose to bring the grand production down with them.

In the coming conflagration, no one (not even the genius planners who have designed this powerful international soap opera) can know for certain just what will happen next. No matter how many computer simulations they have run, no matter how many ways they have war-gamed the human psyche, using their complex logarithms for predicting human behavior in a crisis, no one can predict the future. This is especially true when trying to predict the reactions of dictators, who find themselves alone and cornered. Cocksure generals and intelligence analysts are convinced that they can predict the course of a limited warfare scenario. Preventing a planned limited warfare engagement between nuclear-armed adversaries from escalating into total thermonuclear war is the key to our survival. Asshole generals and admirals do not have that degree of control of our world, no matter what they think.

Students of human nature understand that, in this world of rapidly-building social tensions, the coming conflagration will take the form of a mass human uprising. There will be no reapplication of the “Libya solution,” over and over, until the world is swept clean. If the West dares to pull that trick again, this time upon either Syria or Iran, the outcome will be completely different. Neither Russia nor China is prepared to allow NATO to get away with this again. There are some actual “red lines” in this brave new world that no power dares to cross. There are “red lines” in the desert sands and in the blue waters of the Middle East. Russia has also scattered red lines all over the former Soviet Union.

Given time, every dictator will be unseated, even the secret ones, those faceless men who reveal their faces to the world, while they are manipulating commerce for their own profit. The day of retribution is at hand for the world-planners, and most of them understand this. That fact is what elevates the threat from the burgeoning global social revolution, making it even more dangerous to dictators than any military power. Taking into account this universal fear of all dictators, we can see that the only part that any of us play in this great human drama is in either impeding or accelerating that coming day of freedom. For the day when the last secret dictator falls will be the day that mankind’s full potential is set free from the cages within our minds, which bind us all.

The problem with predicting the decisions to be made by panicking dictators, is that they are not normal human beings, most of them fitting easily into the mold of psychopaths, if only because of the methods that they used in pushing themselves into their seats of power. During the last days of the Soviet Union, not one analyst in the West could have imagined in their best-case/worst-case scenarios the decision that Mikhail Gorbachev had already made, to pull the plug on the Soviet Union and simply allow it to die. This unpredictability is one of the things which make dictators so dangerous. It certainly is a major factor in discouraging most people from even trying to understand them. But I am not most people. Efforts like mine, to understand the minds of the dictators, who have all been targeted for political “termination,” may be the best path for anticipating what Obama has planned for us next.

I have always tended to believe the worst about our leaders’ intentions, up until now, that one day their actions would make nuclear war inevitable. After learning of some of their hidden capabilities, especially their ability to manipulate human behavior, I have had to fine-tune my beliefs. Western behavioral control specialists have devised an elementary mind-control science, which gives them the capability to “manage conflict,” to prevent conflicts from escalating into total global war.

If only our leaders were capable of compromise, making them willing to renounce their great plans for world domination, then they could use their power over man for the benefit of all mankind. As it is, our leaders are all American supremacists, who believe that American domination of the world would be for the betterment of all mankind. These types see our wars of “humanitarian intervention” (such as the recent NATO slaughter in Libya) as acts of benevolence. The rest of the world looks at our wars and the havoc that we have wrought from Afghanistan to North Africa and sees them as the acts of “state terrorism” which they really are.

All the world really is “a stage” in America’s “war on terrorism,” which is actually the greatest psychological warfare operation ever conceived by the minds of men. The trick for understanding this synthetic world we live in, is learning to think of every event that is reported by national news media as a deception, because it probably is. Learning to look behind the publicized events which shape popular opinion, is the key to understanding our manufactured reality. Any report which makes it into the “legitimate press” is either there to help dull our senses, or to mislead us, diverting us from real news stories which might awaken us from our slumber.

In the “global war on terror” everything is based on deception. American media and Western media in particular, have worked hand-in-glove with the US government to mold American popular opinion, as well as world opinion, around a false narrative. Together, government and its subservient media have dispensed a synthetic reality of a “heroic” American military intervention, that is serving as a “force for good” around the world. Not once, have any of the “legitimate news” sources questioned the destruction that has been left in our wake, or the millions of lives that have been sacrificed so far, on the altar of projected American magnanimity.

The global terror war operates around an unknown number of separate psychological warfare operations, with each major production leading its targeted audiences to accept a simple central narrative—“America’s terror war is one of good –vs—evil.”

There are several central disinformation operations, around which the global narrative revolves—

War between Iran and the US is inevitable.

American forces are at war against militant Islamists.

The United States is a protector of human rights.

The US/NATO will one day end its war and leave Afghanistan.

The American goal is to bring prosperity to the world.

None of these statements are true; in fact, they are all calculated to produce the exact opposite outcomes in the new manufactured reality. Iranian, American and British intelligence agencies all work together, to create the false impression of an inevitable global conflagration. Militant Islamists are manipulated by the CIA and by military controllers, to provide America with an excuse to unleash its military power upon a targeted country. The US is moving us all away from a state of worldwide freedom, where full human rights are the norm, instead of the exception, towards a global police state under American domination. The US cannot consider leaving Afghanistan, without first giving-up on its plans for “Silk Roads” and “pipelinestan.” American leaders plan to avoid the effects of the economic collapse (which their greed has caused), by taking control over the global economy, where they will oversee the diminution of personal wealth for most of us.

Obama’s America operates under a different set of rules than those which have governed his predecessors. He doesn’t even bother hiding the two faces of American foreign policy—one of benevolence and one of menace.

Obama and Hillary are a perfect pair for deploying this strategy—she dispenses the warm smiles, while she uses her feminine wiles to push “humanitarian intervention,” while he often sports the determined grimace of a mafia “Don,” making backroom threats and offers which dictators dare not refuse.

The drive to win the pipeline wars for Central Asian blue gas and black gold makes use of every national and international asset to clear the pipeline corridor, connecting the Caspian to the Arabian Seas, eventually reaching the Pakistani port built by the Chinese at Gwadar. The US plan has been to network its way into this New World Order. NATO took a big first-step toward this new world when it created the “Virtual Silk Road,” a computer network which services eight of the CIS governments of the former Soviet Union (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). NATO provides this network to Eastern governments as a service, creating for them a virtual domain over everything in their real domains. This Western service operates from a central hub at Deutsches Elektronen-SYnchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg, Germany (at the home of one of Europe’s largest particle accelerators). The Soros Foundation is one of the Silk Project’s backers.

It may be that the German angle is the key to unraveling this whole knot. Germany seems to be a key-way for “Islamists” to integrate into Europe. German Industrial giant Siemens has won the Turkmen state contract for electrification of the country, water distribution, Caspian oil exploration.

Germany could be considered to be one of the “nodes” in a greater virtual network, which provides the Empire real power to manipulate the world, using powerful nations (nodes) like Germany as tools to oversee lesser nations, such as those in Central Asia. Turkey is another node. Istanbul services the Empire’s need for local personal connections into the Turkmen culture, which stretches deep into Central Asia, all the way to Russia. Turkey provides unique services, in addition to manufacturing and construction projects, Turkey helps by producing fake “al-Qaeda,” Hizb-ut Tahrir and even Chechen militants, who have been either recruited or arrested inside Turkey. This militant recruitment circuit is used for funneling militant players into local Turkmen-based psyops. Turkey also provides the ground troops of Fethullah Gülen’s “moderate Islamists,” who build Islamist-based schools in former Soviet territory, or work from homes to clandestinely spread the teachings of the “Nurcular” movement, which has been banned in Russia as extremist literature. This provides perfect fertile ground for spreading the seeds of Islamist teachings and the widespread Islamaphobic reactions, which always follow.

It is the so-called “moderate Islamists” of Fethullah Gulen and Hizbut-Tahrir (both of which impart the teachings of Said Nursi) which represent the greatest danger of quietly radicalizing the young men of Russia and Central Asia. Their manmade versions of Islam are intended to bend innocent, hungry minds, imparting a false set of ideological beliefs, full of triggering injunctions, that give believers a false sense of moral superiority and a hatred of all of those weaker souls (infidels) who dare to believe differently.

The following definition of that psychological danger is a judgment from the Moscow district court, which describes this psychological mechanism, taught in Nursi’s writings, called “Risale-i Nur”–

[Risale-i Nur] “attempts to influence the psyche of the reader subconsciously using mechanisms of religious belief, i.e. the formation of conscious values and convictions with an irrational basis…,the destruction of religious equality, expressed in the formation of a negative, aggressive attitude among its target audience towards adherents of other confessional groups…,propagandises hatred between Muslims and non-believers.”

This process utilizes the same triggering mechanism of religious guilt that has been used for many years by the Wahhabi and radical Deobandi leaders, to brainwash young suicide bombers all over Asia, and the Middle East. The followers of Nursi follow a gentler approach, but they still motivate young minds with the same mission to defend their false beliefs, which have been methodically drummed into them, filling them with ideas of moral superiority and hatred for everyone who is different. Once their conditioning is complete, they are given the triggering verses (which have been lifted out of context from the real Quran), confronting them with a moral choice, which they cannot escape—will they defend God, or will they surrender to their own sinful natures?

Excessive concerns about the dangers from the spread of these forms of pseudo-Islam may be premature, when there are real Islamic scholars, like Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda (SEE: Tajik Mufti Who Sees Through Anti-Islamist Western Subversion, Targeted By Tajik Court) in Tajikistan, who very boldly speaks-out against these false belief systems. Turajonzoda is second-in-command of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan.

“He has called Hizb ut-Tahrir, an international Islamist organization, a threat to Tajikistan’s stability.^[4] He claimed HT is Western-sponsored and that it wants to “remak[e] Central Asia… A more detailed analysis of HT’s programmatic and ideological views and concrete examples of its activities suggests that it was created by anti-Islamic forces. One proof of this is the comfortable existence this organization enjoys in a number of Western countries, where it has large centers and offices that develop its concept of an Islamic caliphate.”

Hizbut-Tahrir is a British creation, a weaponized form of Islam, which has been passed on to the American Empire-builders. The spread of this viral form of pseudo-religious mass-hypnosis coincides with a rapidly increasing Western-motivated wave of social unrest in the Muslim world and the rise of militant Islamists in the former Soviet space.

Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE serve as other nodes, which provide the destabilizing forces with unseen access in Sunni-dominant regions of South and Central Asia, such as Pakistan, where the Saudis spread dollars among the radical madrassas like “manna” from on high. The UAE controls Shamsi air base in Jacobabad, Pakistan. Saudi penetration into CA is understood to be primarily through the building of Sunni mosques and similar religious institutions (many of them allegedly Gulen schools), throughout CA, particularly in the Fergana Valley. Saudi service to the Empire goes far deeper than these more obvious efforts, since the Saudis are the financial benefactors of most “Islamist” movements (except for the Shia ones), especially the ones which are active in Chechnya and the Caucasus. Bahrain provides another kind of service in other areas, where there is contention or commerce between Sunnis and Shias, or in those countries bordering Iran, such as Turkmenistan.

The psywar for borderline states like Turkmenistan must plan around the special circumstances which are deemed to be matters of survival. The current President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, as well as his predecessor, have maintained a strict neutrality for the country, even though Imperial wars raged all around them. Any effort by CIA planners to bend the will of the “Hero of Turkmenistan” must not violate that neutrality, or it must at least maintain the appearance of neutrality. That public appearance of Turkmen “neutrality” must be maintained, even after the presidential mind has been successfully twisted and he has secretly accepted Imperial domination.

According to the following article from the alternative Turkmen website, Gundogar, (SEE: Predetermined range of Turkmenistan), that goal has already been reached. According to Turkmen author, Ruslan Babanov, Berdimuhamedov’s decisions may all be slanted, as he tries to accommodate his belief that a US/Israeli airstrike against Iran is inevitable. Babanov contends that he is flying blind, trying to navigate the treacherous currents that are ebbing and flowing around and through his country, moving back and forth between two bitter “frenemies,” Russia and the US/NATO.

He therefore feels compelled to follow American dictates and to accommodate Israeli interests in his country. This belief apparently causes him to accept Western plans for harvesting Turkmen gas, as the first stage in dominating all Central Asian gas and oil. He wants to see his gas flowing towards Europe, if only because that is the Imperial demand being made on him. The author of that piece apparently agrees with my contention that the Turkmen President, like all the Central Asian dictators, will eventually turn to Russia, if the Arab Spring revolutions rise-up in their own neighborhood. At that point in the game, they will fear being overthrown by the very real masses of protesters, more than they will fear a hypothetical American/Israeli strike upon neighboring Iran.

If the tables are turned upon the Imperial planners in that manner, and the political climate in Central Asia begins to resemble that which was recently witnessed in Kazakhistan, then Putin might see his Eurasian Union become a reality.

Until those tables are turned, Berdimuhamedov will have to maintain normal commerce with his heavily persecuted Shia neighbor. The government in Iran is known to protest vociferously whenever this Turkmen tilt towards the West becomes apparent. Once more quoting Babanov, the Chief of Staff or the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Seyed Hassan Firuzabadi frames the Turkmen dilemma this way–

”We are taking all measures to limit the influence of the Zionists in the neighboring state of Iran, in particular, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.”

If Berdy really was the “hero of Turkmenistan,” then he would take actions to defend her against all outside aggression, this would mean fighting back against Imperial subversion and destabilization, in the manner of the counter-revolutionary efforts recently made by the Egyptian Army (SEE: Egyptian Police Fight Back Against State Dept./Soros Subversive NGOs). Today, the Army cleaned-out the offices of US and other foreign NGOs, whose sole purpose is to undermine the government there, even though they claim to be defenders of “human rights.”

The National Democratic Institute (NDI), the International Republican Institute (IRI) and Freedom House are all subversive command centers, whose foot soldiers act like little moles, as they busily burrow their way into local and national service organizations in Turkmenistan and in every country of Central Asia, or in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. The compromised local organizations become compromised, turning into larger instruments of subversion. The biggest problem for subverting the CA countries through human rights NGOs, is that dictators like the Turkmen and Uzbek presidents are unwilling to tolerate US criticisms of human rights abuses. The more that the Western groups criticize these governments, the farther apart the two sides become.

Are Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan more afraid of revolution or of a US/Israeli attack upon Iran? Decrease fears of US strike, increase fears of revolution, especially Islamist revolution, and you move both nations closer to the Russian sphere of influence. Russians are staunch supporters of Iran supporter and they are thought to be willing to use whatever force is needed to protect the sovereignty of Iran, just as they will do whatever is necessary to quell any insurrection that threatens their own survival.

So far, Uzbekistan has remained a part of CSTO, but its President, Islam Karimov has refused to take part in preparations for a predominantly Russian rapid reaction force. Uzbekistan’s tilt towards the West has created doubts about its allegiances to any regional grouping that is dominated by Russia. That may have just changed as Uzbek negotiators participated in recent Moscow meetings to hammer-out details and financing for Collective Operational Reaction Forces (CORF). This would also include measures to control the Internet during a regional emergency situation. Recently, Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan submitted a resolution to the U.N., petitioning the General Assembly to delegate to individual states the right to control the Internet during emergency situations, such as the recent Kazakh oil worker protests and major rioting.

Such an explosive situation may be in the making in Russia. The Moscow protests are shaping-up to be a test, a counter-attack set-up by the State Dept. experts in revolutionary democratic subversion, to prove to the rest of the CIS states that Putin’s way of reviving the violent old ways of the Communist Party will not work in this media age. In the past, Putin has been quoted as saying that unlawful protestors should “expect a baton to the skull.” If the world is forced to choose between the violence of the West’s war on terror campaign, or the violence of Russia, based upon the suppression of those democratic rights, then the world will choose to side with the known quantity, the Western ways. However, the CA dictators are not being asked to do the right thing, they are being compelled to do whatever it takes to survive.

The dictators of the world may have been able to fit into the democratic world on an economic basis, but they can never really fit-into this world, until they loosen their grip on the reins of power. This is a risk that they dare not take. In trying to force Putin to give-up power, Obama has reminded the rest of the world’s dictators and authoritarians of the very real dangers to them from the forces of unleashed democracy. Allow people to say anything that they want and red lines will be crossed, lines which can never be uncrossed. This is the lesson to be learned from Hillary’s Moscow agitation.

How Putin handles the growing test represented by the Moscow protests will determine for the rest of the former Soviet dictators of the wisdom of a Russian led counter-revolutionary rapid deployment force—vs –an American-led force. If Putin manages to put-down the challenge and afterwards, he is able to placate the protesters’ demands, then he will have demonstrated the practical value of his approach over that of Obama’s.

How Obama counters the challenge coming from a revitalized Putin (a Putin who is thereafter seen as a force for stability) will probably be the deciding factor in whether America suffers a moderately painful repositioning of its resources and a cessation of hostilities against the world, or whether we take a very large portion of the world with us as we strike-out in a fiery last gasp. America must face the fact that it cannot continue to have its way with the world, on the lame excuse that we are “fighting terror” and “defending freedom.” The entire world is slowly catching-on, that we have been sowing terror and snuffing-out the last vestiges of individual freedom.

It is presently in US interests to calm the Central Asian dictators’ fears over an Arab Spring virus breaking out in their domains. If Russia chooses to challenge the West as it makes a grab for its former national resources, then it would be in Russia’s interests to stoke those fears, as a means to build support for a Russian alliance and rapid reaction force in CA, instead of the American version being pushed upon them.

If Obama doesn’t want Putin to be the leading actor in this psychodrama, then he will accentuate the fears which cause sleepless nights for everyone in the CA neighborhood and the entire hemisphere—Islamists. It would serve American interests to heighten fears of an Islamist uprising, or a spillover from Afghanistan, or heightened fears over those nasty nuclear-armed Islamists in Iran and Pakistan.

If Russian leaders have been paying attention, then they too, will have copied American dexterity in manipulating people into situations that they would choose to avoid if left on their own. They would move the people of CA in the direction that they want them to go in, but they would do it in a way which improved people’s lives in some major way. Just like the Virtual Silk Project, which greatly improved inefficient governments, it also brought with it multiple national Internet systems that let thousands of people improve their lives in countless ways. By working with the officials and professionals who use this network, the Americans and Europeans have networked themselves into the hearts of these countries, making themselves vital cogs in the great machines of the young Central Asian states. This says nothing of potential, secret ways in which NATO could have gained advantages over their major adversaries by providing this insiders network.

Russia could also gain similar advantages if Putin would invest some of those Gazprom profits into modernizing some of the decrepit national roads, railroads, water and energy transmission systems that the CA nations are trying to survive on. If Russia wants to advance itself among civilized Nations then its leaders will learn important lessons from America’s fall and begin to act like a great power. It will start helping its former allies and stop trying to gain economic advantage over them. This world is rapidly changing and Nations which refuse to change along with it will be swept away by the howling winds of history.

Russia rises or falls in current world opinion, based on its resistance to American Imperial aggression, or lack thereof. With the NATO powers rising as world aggressors, the world looks to Russia to resist. Acting in the role of a champion of the targeted nations of the Middle East and Africa, Russia grows in stature in direct proportion to America’s fall. The tipping point has now been reached, where every new Western aggression moves greater numbers of people to the side of anyone who will resist the aggression.

The moment of decision has now come, when the atmosphere of fear that America and her Western allies have been striving so hard to create starts to dissipate just a little, so that people might see through the smoky haze of the false reality that has been created. If the entire world suddenly learns that we have all been following lies for the past ten years there will be no allies left to wage the Empire’s wars. What repercussions will Americans throughout the world suffer if suddenly it became obvious that we were all being blackmailed into waging a war that none of us wanted?

How many governments have been forced into supporting the US campaign out of fear of an American/Israeli strike upon Iran? How many have joined us out of a fear of being overrun by an wave of Islamists? In the Bush/Cheney campaign to gain support for their terror war, they forced every government to decide whether they were “with us or against us.” This was the prototype of the pattern that was to be followed throughout the perpetual war. Now, instead of threatening to bomb someone “back to the Stone Age,” we have forced countless conscientious people to warn the world at the top of their lungs, that we are about to cause nuclear war in the Middle East. The new imperative question then becomes—Whose side do you want to be on?

How corrupt, or how far gone, does a government have to be, if the only way it can survive the damage it has caused by its own excesses is to extort half of the world into doing its will and the other half into serving as its “sacrificial sheep” on the altar of prosperity? If the only way that this Nation can survive is on the backs of others, then does it even deserve to survive? What has become of the sterling moral fiber which once allegedly made us so worthy of such international respect?

In the final analysis, how much of this threatened violence, which constantly bombards us from US and Western sources, is for real? As crazy and as borderline berserker as Bush and Cheney and the rest of the neocons crowd appeared to be, would they really have followed through and eliminated the state of Pakistan, if Musharraf hadn’t given in to their demands? After ten years of depleting the most expensive and hardest to replace weapons in the US and NATO arsenals, as well as wearing-out their delivery systems, are Western forces still capable of sending any moderately-armed nation like Iran or Pakistan back to the Stone Age, without crossing the nuclear threshold in the process? Have Bush and Obama “shot our wad,” before taking-out the most important primary targets, which stand between us and world conquest? There will be no Pipelineistan or Silk Road without either Pakistan or Iran at our side.

What have we really accomplished in either Afghanistan or Iraq, other than totally destroying two previously functioning nations, without defeating any of our chosen “enemies,” considering that their guerilla armies still remain intact? Does “mission accomplished” mean that we have successfully destroyed these countries and forced their armies to adopt an asymmetric warfare strategy? We have proved ourselves to be very efficient at mass-destruction, but we are no better at defeating guerilla armies than anybody else. The bloody terrorist strategy that we set loose upon the Soviets in Afghanistan so many years ago has come home to plague us and to deprive us of an elusive victory. We taught the original Mujahedeen very well. They have proven to be very proficient at teaching their learned skills to others. Through our subversive efforts, the entire world has been made aware of the fact that each man can be an army unto himself, if only he has the will to make it so.

Weighing our future military actions upon these many errors of the past, we begin to see just how many of the military threats that have carried this war (especially the part about recruiting recalcitrant allies) were hollow. Comparing the red-hot rhetoric sweetened with the honey dripping from the tongues of armies of American diplomats, to the reality of our actions, one thing becomes apparent—all or most of our actions have turned-out to be rational, no matter how insane the threats used to get us to that place seemed to be. That is the standard that we must use, when judging American and Israeli threats against Iran. If starting a war with Iran would be an insane act, and most American experts admit that this is correct, then bombing Iran would prove to be an irrational act. This tells us that there is very little chance that America will allow Israel to bomb Iran.

Following the Imperial line of thinking, beyond the possibilities of war with Iran, for a Nation committed to rationality, are there anticipated circumstances before us, when the only foreseeable rational solution would be to do the irrational thing? Will there come a time, when taking a calculated, insane-seeming risk is the only rational decision that our leaders can make? Have the devious American and British planners set us up for a great collision with the other great world powers in our immediate future? Do they have a Final Solution in mind for us all, a decisive nuclear war with either Russia or China?

Does it make sense to the self-elected world planners that a significant portion of humanity be eliminated, for the sake of some perceived “greater good”? Have the powers that be come to the merciless, immoral conclusion that “the needs of the many really do outweigh the needs of the few”? If this is the case, then the rest of mankind would be compelled to make the moral decision to resist this planned genocide. This is pure insanity; where is the logic in killing millions of innocent human beings? What exactly is the truth about all the bullshit that our government has been spreading around for so many years?

If the American and other Western oligarchs have foreseen their own destruction at the hands of the people (who will soon respond to the powerful motivations which have been unleashed), then their only logical choice for self-preservation would be to prevent that global mob from reaching that critical mass. This is the logic of the psychopath, the subject at the center of all “conspiracy theories.” All such “conspiracy theorists” research this common element, the psychopaths who rule over us. This probably explains why we have all been branded as lunatics ourselves.

In a reverse logic of that dispensed by the psychopathic ruling elite, we must communicate the threat of this probable future, as our own motivational tool. Just as the elite use the threat of an insane war upon Iran to force others to join their side, we know that we must project the threat of a US/Russia nuclear war to force people to join us in the anti-Empire resistance. The United States has decided to disengage itself from certain obligations under the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE). In particular, the USA will no longer inform Russia about plans connected with the redeployment of its forces. Those restrictions are not touching upon any other country.

"Today the United States announced in Vienna, Austria, that it would cease carrying out certain obligations under the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty with regard to Russia. This announcement in the CFE Treaty's implementation group comes after the United States and NATO Allies have tried over the past 4 years to find a diplomatic solution following Russia's decision in 2007 to cease implementation with respect to all other 29 CFE States. Since then, Russia has refused to accept inspections and ceased to provide information to other CFE Treaty parties on its military forces as required by the Treaty," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said on Tuesday.

The remarks from the US diplomat look like another attempt to turn everything upside down again. It is worth mentioning here that the first version of the CFE Treaty was signed in 1990, during the existence of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. The document stipulated a reduction of the number of tanks, armored vehicles, artillery (larger than 100 mm in caliber), combat planes and helicopters, as well as information exchange.

A renewed variant of the treaty was signed in 1999. The new edition reflected such changes in Europe as the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the expansion of NATO. However, only Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan ratified the new treaty. Russia moved a big part of its arms behind the Ural mountains, but the Western countries did not even want to execute it. The expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance continued, and NATO neared Russian borders.

At the end of 2007, Vladimir Putin decided to suspend Russia's participation in the CFE until the USA and its European allies ratified the renewed variant of the treaty. The Americans did not want to make any moves in that direction. Now they have decided not to inform Russia about the redeployment of its forces. This is obviously another violation of the treaty which the United States committed.

What consequences may Russia face as a result of the US decision? Pravda.Ru asked an expert opinion from the director of the Center for Military Forecasts, Anatoly Tsyganok.

"The USA will stop informing Russia about military redeployments. The Americans can technically send their troops to Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia, which did not sign the treaty. Will the Baltic states turn into an uncontrollable military center near Russia's borders?"

"When Russia suspended its participation in the CFE Treaty, she had the right to say that some NATO's newcomers, such as the Baltic states and Slovenia, had never signed the treaty. Now NATO eyes Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania and all other former members of the Warsaw Pact.

"When they were deciding on the unification of Germany in 1990, Germany and France said in the appendix to the agreement that NATO would not move beyond the Oder River (the river separates Germany and Poland - ed.). However, the West does not take this appendix into consideration. They only follow the agreement itself, which does not say a word about the non-expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance. It just so happens that the USA and its allies played a trick on Russia.

"Why did it take the United States four years to decide not to inform Russia about military redeployments?"

"Apparently, it is connected with the situation in the Mediterranean Sea. One may assume that NATO will create a military group near Russia's southern borders to strike Syria. They will most likely raise this issue at a NATO meeting in December. They will try to analyze Syria's actions in case NATO conducts a military operation against the country, like it already happened in Libya."

"Is Russia a big obstacle for conducting NATO's operation against Syria? Does the USA have anything to conceal from us at this point?"

"Russia is an obstacle, yes. We have a naval base in Syria's Tartus. The base is protected with air defense complexes, so the chances for aggression from NATO or Israel from the sea are slim. If they decide to attack, it will most likely happen from the side of Saudi Arabia. So the USA has something to conceal.

"There is another aspect to this. There are approximately 120,000 Russian citizens living in Syria. Presumably, a lot are Russian women who married local men. Russia can use this detail to interfere into the events in Syria.

In addition, 20 percent of the Russian defense complex will simply tip off the perch in case Russia loses the Syrian market. It is not ruled out that they are regrouping NATO forces to get ready for a war against Syria, and they don't want to notify Russia of that....

This week, the media, all of it, traced stories about Iran’s nuclear weapons program to its real source.

The IAEA, which has been unable to locate the vast Dimona nuclear facility in Israel or even begin to ask questions about Israel’s illegal nuclear arsenal, has put together a “rigged” report built of rumors and spin.

The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), a “quasi-official” group is, in fact, an Israeli intelligence organization, long infiltrated, long engulfed, long ago a force for propaganda and, primarily, an organization tasked with helping Israel “hide” its nuclear arsenal “in plain sight” while fabricating evidence.

To make it more plain, the IAEA is, in fact, a clandestine intelligence organization tasked by Israel to bring about a conflict between the United States and certain European powers and Iran.

It is a conflict that may eventually involve Russia, China, a conflict that is intended to manipulate fuel markets, crash currencies, sell arms and do everything but make the world more secure.

Were the IAEA to put out a report based on known falsehoods and spin under such circumstances, and we believe this fact to be easily supportable, members of the IAEA would be war criminals and should be considered combatants were any conflict to be entered upon based on their transgressions....

The White House has appointed Mr. John Dimitris Negroponte to be United States ambassador to Iraq. He will preside over the largest embassy in the world, and housed in the Republic Palace (misleadingly named Saddam’s Palace by the U.S. occupation). He will be protected by high concrete walls, barbed wires and more than 150,000 occupation force, including several thousands of foreign mercenaries armed to the teeth with the most violent tools. Mr. Negroponte is Greek-American diplomat. He is currently leading the diplomatic war against the people of Iraq as the U.S. envoy at the United Nations (UN) in New York. Negroponte is Jewish. A friend in Spain expressed his deep concern to me recently: " to appoint a Jew as ambassador to the Arab country that has been devastated because of the will of a cabal of Jewish neocons headed by Wolfowitz Bush is just an accessory -, is like trying to put off a fire using buckets of gasoline".

Here is Negroponte's bio. One thing is screaming at me - he is listed as having served in the US Foreign Service from 1960 to 1997. It talks about what he did AFTER 1981 - and mere mention that he was in Asia before that. He also speaks fluent Vietnamese. Even if that system comes together, it will struggle to handle different types of data—sales records on a spreadsheet, say, plus video surveillance images. What Palantir (pronounced Pal-an-TEER) does, says Avivah Litan, an analyst at Gartner (IT), is “make it really easy to mine these big data sets.” The company’s software pulls off one of the great computer science feats of the era: It combs through all available databases, identifying related pieces of information, and puts everything together in one place.

Depending where you fall on the spectrum between civil liberties absolutism and homeland security lockdown, Palantir’s technology is either creepy or heroic. Judging by the company’s growth, opinion in Washington and elsewhere has veered toward the latter. Palantir has built a customer list that includes the U.S. Defense Dept., CIA, FBI, Army, Marines, Air Force, the police departments of New York and Los Angeles, and a growing number of financial institutions trying to detect bank fraud. Palantir has been used to find suspects in a case involving the murder of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent, and to uncover bombing networks in Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. “It’s like plugging into the Matrix,” says a Special Forces member stationed in Afghanistan who requested anonymity out of security concerns.

The origins of Palantir go back to PayPal, the online payments pioneer founded in 1998. A hit with consumers and businesses, PayPal also attracted criminals who used the service for money laundering and fraud. By 2000, PayPal looked like “it was just going to go out of business” because of the cost of keeping up with the bad guys, says Peter Thiel, a PayPal co-founder.

The antifraud tools of the time could not keep up with the crooks. PayPal’s engineers would train computers to look out for suspicious transfers—a number of large transactions between U.S. and Russian accounts, for example—and then have human analysts review each flagged deal. But each time PayPal cottoned to a new ploy, the criminals changed tactics. The computers would miss these shifts, and the humans were overwhelmed by the explosion of transactions the company handled.

PayPal’s computer scientists set to work building a software system that would treat each transaction as part of a pattern rather than just an entry in a database. They devised ways to get information about a person’s computer, the other people he did business with, and how all this fit into the history of transactions. These techniques let human analysts see networks of suspicious accounts and pick up on patterns missed by the computers. PayPal could start freezing dodgy payments before they were processed. “It saved hundreds of millions of dollars,” says Bob McGrew, a former PayPal engineer and the current director of engineering at Palantir.

After EBay (EBAY) acquired PayPal in 2002, Thiel left to start a hedge fund, Clarium Capital Management. Times gone by and the history of the Caspian region is subjected by a cyclical pattern of conflict between global powers. The era of The Great Game is a historical period extraordinarily identified for the clashing of empires, the 19th Century, the Ottoman, British, and Czarist Russian Empires squabbled for power in and around the Caspian region.

An established fact, the Caspian Sea is the largest inland body of water in the world and borders Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Iran. Oil and gas are the sea’s most precious natural resources. Caspian oil production currently accounts for 2.8 percent of the world’s oil supply, whereas, gas production accounts for about 5 percent. Estimates of the Caspian Sea region’s proven oil reserves vary widely by source.

The United States Department of Energy estimates that the region holds between 17 to billion barrels. The British Petroleum’s estimates are 47.1 billion barrels. These figures

indicate that the Caspian’s oil resources are much less than those of the Middle East.

Stated differently, the Caspian Sea will not replace the Middle East as the main reservoir of world oil. Still, production from the Caspian will add more oil to international markets and contribute to global energy security. The sea has yet to be divided among the littoral states, and each is in quest to gain the biggest share possible.

The Caspian region does not only consist of the littoral states but also Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Russia is treated uniquely as a global power. Due to the Caspian Sea location within the geographical area. Its oil rich resources, strategic location, and history of global conflict combine to make this region vital to its neighbours.

A global level competition within the Caspian region. During the early 19th Century, Britain and Tsarist Russia were both expanding their empires into Central Asia. Both of these powers soon congregated on the borders of the Ottoman Empire. As these empires are closer with each other, a period of competition known as The Great Game was created.

Apprehension that the Russians would use Afghanistan to stage an invasion of India, the British initiated the First Afghan War in 1838. The objective was to set up a puppet government in Afghanistan which would provide a buffer against advanced Russian intrusion. The First Afghan War ended with the retreat of British troops from an Afghanistan that rejected to be submissive. For a while Russia and Britain shifted to coercion and proxies but rapidly a Second Afghan War was fought, only to suffer the same fate. A momentary peace followed. When that agreement was upset by the Bolshevik Revolution, a Third Afghan War erupted. Similarly, this rivalry ended in stalemate, and The Great Game was briefly abandoned and the world became entangled in World War II.

Subsequently, World War II, a destabilized Britain was replaced by the United States as a global power. The Cold War period saw the development of a global balance between Soviet Russia and the United States. In the Caspian region this balance of powers resembled like another Great Game, and Afghanistan found itself entangled once again. This time around it was the USSR that attempted to suppress this defiant country. The Afghanis resisted fiercely and bloodily repulsed the invading Soviets. Soviet expansion ground to a halt, and the Soviet Union disintegrated thereafter.

Presently, the Caspian region remains a crucial point in international affairs, motivated by the value of oil and a reinvigorated US presence. Russia, China, and the US now find themselves engaged in this blueprint of global rivalry. Beyond doubt, this has the unfolding of a dramatic sequel of The Great Game, and all three powers juxtaposed. These three states will be referred to as the global powers.

Russia

Russia has had the longest history of participation in the power struggles within the Caspian region. Even throughout the era when its power has declined, Russia has never completely abandoned its stake in the regional game. It has had vested interests in this region since it affirmed its power in the commencement of The Great Game. Today, control in this sphere is not just an issue of regional security, or energy requirements, but one of supremacy. This region is Russia’s backyard. The collapse of the Berlin wall, in 1989, signifies the end of the Cold War, and it marked the beginning, of re-examination and identification of international relations, filling the void left by the collapse of Cold War alliances. As the Cold War ended and the USSR started to disintegrate, Soviet treaties with Iran came into question. To guarantee the stability of the Caspian region, the Minsk Agreement was ratified on December 21, 1991. The Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other former soviet republics signed this accord to affirm compliance with all treaties signed with the former Soviet Union.

Four days later, the Soviet Union ceased to exist as a state. The agreements between Iran and the USSR concerning control of the Caspian Sea, on the other hand, were annulled in the wake of this disintegration. Now Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan would want a fraction of this sea’s wealth. This issue swiftly drew controversy. In 1994, Kazakhstan proposed the first draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. This prompted other states to each one to propose and construe their own convenient interpretation with regard to the procedural division of the sea.

In 1996, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan signed the Ashgabat Declaration. In this declaration, all approved on a single plan for the division of the Caspian. In the wake of this agreement, Azerbaijan was in peril of being locked out of Caspian negotiations. In 1997, oil disputes broke out between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, as well as with Iran. Russia stepped promptly into both of these conflicts, and demonstrating Russia’s continuing influence among the Caspian states. Once these disagreements settled, Azerbaijan began to work more closely with Russia. In April 1998, both states stunned the world by establishing a formal agreement to divide the seabed on their coasts. Still, a unanimous agreement on the division of the Caspian has yet to be realized.

In the wake of September 11th, Russia cooperated with the increased US military presence in the region. Both states share a common interest in fighting terrorism. Collaboration in counterterrorism, nonetheless, does not mean that Russia is indifferent with the US presence. The United States’ amplified involvement has changed the military power balance in the region. Prior to US intervention in the region, Russia and China were providing security through the entities like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). In light of new US military participation, Russia is working to strengthen its security structures in the region. Russia has consistently pursued policies that would make the Caspian states dependent upon it for security. In 2002, Russia formed the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSO) with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, and Armenia. Russia is clearly the dominant state and acts as a “security manager.”

In addition to its security concerns, Russia has economic priorities in Central Asia. Among the greatest economic issues for Russia has been the division of the Caspian Sea. Russia has worked to create an agreement that would be mutually beneficial for all the littoral states while preserving Russian hegemony. Russia does not appear interested in seeing the development of regional cooperation that would undermine its role as a regional hegemony. For Russia and China, economic advantages appear to be practically as valuable as military or security advantages.

China

Chinese entry into The Great Game is a new development, but should not be surprising. China can no longer be considered just an East-Asian power. It has established trade missions in every Central Asian state and “offered to help Uzbekistan develop several small oil fields.” China has also turned its north-western region (Xinjiang) into a hub that will facilitate economic growth. This region shares its border with Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Pakistan can only benefit if it should act quickly to draw pipelines for India and Gawadar for onward despatch to outside world. To date, China possesses trade ties with more than 100 countries and regions.

Demographically, China’s presence is being felt as well. Kazakhstan now has 100,000 Chinese living within its borders. The geographical proximity of the Caspian region makes it a Chinese priority for both economic and security reasons. As China engages this region, it has an interest in balancing the influence of the US and Russia. US bases in Central Asia place US military forces closer to China’s western border than ever before. China, Russia, and the other members of the SCO, have called for the United States to set a deadline to withdraw from military bases in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Russian and Chinese relations have been relatively cooperative to date. It would be noteworthy to mention, though, that these two are competing for oil. Cooperation agreements on security issues may find themselves secondary to China’s demand for oil.

The economic growth in China has produced an insatiable need for energy resources. While China wants to import Caspian oil, Russia wants to direct it to the West. The rising demand for oil is doubtless one of the most vital factors motivating Chinese foreign policy in the region. It also has the potential to be one of the most unstable issues in the new stage of this global game.

United States

The United States has a distinctive position in the game, as a power from half-way around the globe. After the downfall of the USSR, the US was slow to engage itself in the Caspian region. US interests for this region, on the other hand, was designed to develop notably in the post-Cold War period. Between 1992 and 1999, the US would afford approximately $1.9 billion to the Caspian states under the Freedom Support Act. In 1994, the Clinton administration established an agency committed exclusively to designing the Caspian policy. By 1998, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright travelled to this region and met with various leaders. Also in 1998, President Clinton appointed a special advisor for the Caspian region.

Oil has always been one of the United States’ leading interests in the Caspian but should not be regarded as a lone motivation of US policy. As a global hegemony (though presently, seen in a crepuscular stage), the US also has a concentration in scrutinising the intensification of Russian and Chinese power. After September 11th, the global War on Terror also became a key factor in determining US foreign policy. At present, the administration of Barack Obama appears to place anti-terrorism beyond economic considerations, and US interests in the region have never been as vigorously exerted as they are at the present. Strong US financial and military concern quickly followed the devastation of the twin towers. This integrated the establishment of the military bases within and outside the Caspian region that alarmed China. Massive financial aid was granted in exchange for state cooperation. Such commitment of troops and finances has made the US a major player in the Caspian region but the rules of the game are presently determined by Russia and China.” The US is left with modest choice but to employ these powers, due to its commitment to Afghanistan and enormous financial and manpower outlay.

United States aid was a smart enticement for Caspian states, but the US presence weighs greatly in the region. As its propensity to use bi-lateral agreements signify, the US has revealed an inclination to act autonomously. This commitment to unilateralism causes some tensions among regional states. US normative aspirations could also amplify this feeling of isolation, as authoritarian states feels imperilled by US endorsement of democracy. This is evident in the case of Uzbekistan.

These current power struggles between the three global powers pursue a pattern similar to The Great Game. The greatest security threat to the Caspian region may not come from external forces but from interstate conflict. إن الإنسان المؤمن بربه وبكتبه المقدسة وبتعاليمه وبموت وقيامة السيد المسيح لا يموت، بل يرقد على رجاء القيامة بانتظار يوم الحساب الأخير، والرب الذي وهب الإنسان نعمة الحياة هو وحده يقرر متى يستردها وليس أي مخلوق أخر.

اليوم ونحن نصلي في الذكرى التاسعة لروح الشهيد النائب والوزير الراحل ايلي حبيقة نردد بايمان وخشوع ووقار ما قاله النبي أيوب رغم كل المصائب التي حلت عليه فيما كان الشيطان يحاول جاهداً إيقاعه في التجربة دون أن يتمكن من أن يحقق هدفه اللعين هذا كون إيمان أيوب بربه كان قوياً وراسخاً: "عرياناً خرجت من بطن أمي، وعرياناً أعود إلى هناك، الرب أعطى والرب أخذ تبارك اسم الرب". (ايوب01/21).

يقول السيد المسيح: "أَنَا هُوَ الْقِيَامَةُ وَالْحَيَاةُ. مَنْ آمَنَ بِي، وَإِنْ مَاتَ فَسَيَحْيَا" (يوحنا 25/11). إن تعلقنا بلبناننا الحبيب حتى الشهادة يعزينا ويقوي إيماننا ويرسخ الرجاء في نفوسنا ويساعدنا على تقبل غياب الشهداء الأبرار برضوخ كامل لمشيئة أبينا السماوي فهم لا يموتون بل يبقون أحياء في وجداننا وضمائرنا وقلوبنا وعقولنا وفي كل عمل نقوم به يهدف لخدمة ومساعدة الآخرين الذين هم بحاجة إلينا.

يقول الشاعر: "ما استحق أن يعيش، من عاش لنفسه فقط". لذلك فالشخص المؤمن يجد لذته في أن يحيا لأجل غيره، عملاًً بقول الرب، "تحب قريبك كنفسك" (متى39/22). ولهذا يحب كل الناس من أعماق قلبه وتكون محبته للآخرين محبة عملية حسبما قال الرسول يوحنا: "يا أبنائي، لا تكن محبتنا بالكلام أو باللسان بل بالعمل والحق". (1يو18:3).

هذه المحبة العظيمة، والله هو محبة، تتميز بالعطاء والبذل والتفاني سواء من الناحية الجسدية، أو الناحية الروحية. لذلك فإن الشخص المؤمن والمعطاء والصادق هو بطبيعته إنسان نقي وتقي وشفاف وصادق ومحب يخاف الله الذي خلقه على صورته ومثاله.

هذا الإنسان يجهد بفرح كبير ليكون خادماً يخدم غيره في كل المجالات، لا لأنه مطالب بهذا، وإنما لأن الخدمة جزء من طبيعته ونفسيته وثقافته، ومكون أساسي من مكونات كيانه الإيماني. في خدمة الآخرين يشعر بالحب ويتغذى روحياً من تقديم الخدمات أكثر مما يغذي غيره بها. وإذا كانت الخدمة هي من عمل الملائكة (عبرانيين14:1)، فكم بالأولى البشر. وقد أعطانا السيد المسيح المثال الأبلغ في هذا الشأن إذ قال: "ومن أراد أن يكون الأول فيكم، فليكن لكم عبدا، وهكذا ابن الإنسان جاء لا ليخدمه الناس، بل ليخدمهم ويفدي بحياته كثيراً منهم". (متى 20/27 و28)

جاء في إنجيل القديس يوحنا (15/13): "ما من حب أعظم من هذا: أن يضحي الإنسان بنفسه في سبيل أحبائه". وقال الشهيد النائب والوزير الراحل ايلي حبيقة: "إن الوطن الذي لا يفتديه شبابه بأرواحهم لا يستمر ويزول. إن خدمة الآخرين وبذل الذات من أجلهم هي أعمال مقدسة والمسيح الإله قبل الصلب والعذاب والإهانات وقدم نفسه على الصليب فداء للإنسان ليعتقه من نير وعبودية الخطيئة ويحرره.

إن الشهيد لا يطلب شيئاً لنفسه من مقتنيات هذه الدنيا الفانية، وإنما يسعي لنيل بركات الله ليستحق بجدارة أفعاله وإيمانه العودة إلى منزل أبيه السماوي، والمسيح قال لنا: "ماذا ينفع الإنسان لو ربح العالم كله وخسر نفسه". (متى 16/26).

الشهيد هو قربان طاهر يقدم نفسه طواعية على مذبح الله بمحبة واندفاع وفرح من أجل أحبائه تماماً كما هو حال كل شهيد من شهداء لبنان الأبرار. عرفاناً بجميلهم نقول أنه وبفضل استشهادهم بقينا، وسوف نبقى بإذن الله طالما بقي الشباب اللبناني مؤمنا بلبنان وبرسالته وعلى استعداد تام ودائم للشهادة.

الشهيد النائب والوزير الراحل ايلي حبيقة لم يمت لأنه باق في كل جهد وعمل يقوم بهما أي لبناني من أجل الحفاظ على سيادة واستقلال وحرية وطنه الحبيب، ولصون كرامة وعزة اللبنانيين، كما أن عائلة حبيقة هي نبع معطاء لا ينضب في دفق الإيمان والوطنية والشهادة للحق والشهداء من أجل لبنان الرسالة والقداسة والقديسين.

Western militarization of the Arctic.... Part II

Nobody regards the Arctic as a dead zone anymore. Its vast ice caps hide 7% of the world’s oil and 33% of its gas reserves, together with gold, diamonds and other minerals. Global warming and the melting of the Arctic permafrost will soon unlock the Arctic Ocean treasures.

This prospective change has caused the Arctic to now be wrangled over by the Arctic Five – Russia, Canada, the US, Denmark and Norway, of which only Russia, it must be noted, is not a NATO member. The alliance clearly specified its interest in the Arctic at the November 2010 Lisbon summit. The situation gets more complicated due to internal bickering over territorial claims amongst the Five. The US and Canada can not reach agreement on the Beaufort Sea (a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean) while Canada is also battling over the Hans Island with Denmark.

Even China that lies far away from the Arctic wants a stake in the region. Its Snow Dragon icebreaker has entered the Arctic waters twice. S. Korea is also getting icebreakers ready.

The head of the Russian Center for Analysis of the World Arms Trade, Igor Korotchenko, says that a report for the US Navy says that America urgently needs to build up its military potential in the Arctic. It proposes that the Navy begin intensive Arctic training, acquire new Arctic-class vessels and icebreakers and set up ground and undersea surveillance and monitoring stations. US multipurpose nuclear subs are constantly patrolling the Arctic Ocean and their goals are far from being scientific he stated in an interview for the Voice of Russia:

The Pentagon has permanent rapid response missile groups at high latitudes including 3-4 cruisers and 4-6 destroyers. It has 11 Air Force fighters deployed in Alaska while the US Air Force and subs patrol the Arctic Ocean area and are equipped with high-precision weapons. The US Defense Department is also training ground forces for operations in the Arctic and plans to construct two naval bases in Alaska.

Canada allocated money to build a deep water port and a navy base in the abandoned town of Nanisivik and launched the renovation and the expansion of a military training base in Resolute Bay and ordered the construction of new Arctic patrol ships. The country’s Arctic military contingent has also been increased tenfold. Even though Canada has no constant military presence in the Arctic it has been carrying out annual drills called Operation Nanook to train for emergencies and disasters and since 2007 it has been conducting sovereignty patrols in the Arctic.

In 2010 the Canadian war games, for the first time, featured troops from the US and Denmark which gave Canada official status as a NATO observer in the Arctic. In summer 2011 the exercises were joined by the US and NATO air forces and included jet fighters, spy planes and cargo aircraft.

Norway, for its part, opened a new hi-tech Arctic Circle Centre north of Mo i Rana near the Arctic Circle. The country also moved its main military base to the location and used it as the venue for the Cold Response drills in the summer of 2011 which featured 10,000 NATO and Norwegian troops.

Russia, one-fifth of which is located in the Arctic, has to respond to the region’s militarization. It intends to create a separate Arctic division to provide for the safety of its Arctic territories in a changing military and political environment. Russia also has an Arctic strategy worked out by the country’s Security Council that envisages moving the region under the Federal Security Service’s jurisdiction and making it Russia’s leading resource base by 2016.

In the spring of 2011 Russia’s Minister of Defense stated that an Arctic motorized infantry unit had been created on the Kola Peninsula. The troops will be specially equipped for operating in the region. A Russian expert on the subject, Igor Korotchenko, told the VOR that Russia’s military equipment complies with the specific standards required and is resistant to high and low temperatures. Ground troops will be supported by ice-breaking warships that are capable of not only escorting vessels but also of carrying out military missions, he said.

Unfortunately the Arctic has become a militarized zone and the only way out is for the Arctic countries is to peacefully divide the area into zones of responsibility and to launch peaceful exploration of the region as soon as possible. They must thus not allow non-Arctic states the chance to make claims using military force....

US rule may crumble under its own weight of its criminal and Zioconned Elite....

-Some in the US have forgotten that no empire lasts forever, and believe that superior firepower, a strong economy and unmatched soft power will lead to perpetual dominance status…US public opinion cannot bear any small country going against Washington’s will. The stronger it becomes, the more obscure the line between “leading the world” and “ruling the world” becomes.
-The world does not belong to the US as some of its leaders might think. Neither China, nor any other country, are to blame for that.

Public opinion in the US concerns every detail of the Obama administration’s China policy, including its “tough” stance that has seemingly become political mainstream.

In fact, a deliberately “tough” US is unnecessary since China has never doubted the country’s power. Instead, it is Americans and Europeans that seem to believe more in the decline of the US.

The national strength of the US will remain first and foremost for a long time. However, this has led to over-confidence since the Cold War. Some in the US have forgotten that no empire lasts forever, and believe that superior firepower, a strong economy and unmatched soft power will lead to perpetual dominance status. The US never expresses the intention to “rule the world,” but its desire to be the world leader is obvious. US public opinion cannot bear any small country going against Washington’s will. The stronger it becomes, the more obscure the line between “leading the world” and “ruling the world” becomes.

A worry that the US will lose its global position has resulted from the country’s current crisis. The Obama administration enhances strategic deployment in the Asian-Pacific region to safeguard this global presence. This will burden and drag down the US. The country is not really becoming weak, but its strategic demand surpasses its real capacity. In the Cold War era, the strength of the US could easily protect the Western world. However, as its economy is declining, it is not realistic for the US to regulate the world order along as before.

The US attempts to mobilize global political and economic resources to refuel its capacity but this has worsened the country’s financial straits. The US has tried to subdue the world by its military and economic power and system in the past, but nowadays, it is pursuing private interests. Due to a worsened economy, the US is returning to a mixture of military and political power. However, such shortcuts do not guarantee success as seen in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The US intends to solve economic problems by exerting political pressure on China. Congressmen and politicians take the task of CEOs, blindly interfering politically in the marketplace.

Such a mission is hollow, and ultimately doomed to failure. Maybe the US should learn to accept the reality of a multi-polar world and change its mentality. As long as it lowers its defensive posture, it will remain a key player in the world. The difficulties the US faces today are controllable and will not lead to its decline.

It is understandable that the US feels insecure in front of a rising China, but if this insecurity becomes extreme, it will clash with this unrealistic ambition of dominating the world. The world does not belong to the US as some of its leaders might think. Neither China, nor any other country, are to blame for that....

Dead Men Tell No Tales: The CIA, the inside job of 9/11; Pentagon killers and the Awlaki Assassination....

On September 30, the CIA and Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) assets under the Agency's control, assassinated the alleged "external operations" chief of the Afghan-Arab database of disposable Western intelligence assets, also known as Al-Qaeda, Anwar al-Awlaki, and a second American citizen, Samir Khan, the 25-year-old editor of Inspire magazine, in a drone strike in Yemen.

As The Washington Post reported last month, the "commingling" of CIA officers, JSOC paramilitary troops and contractors "occupy an expanding netherworld between intelligence and military operations" where "congressional intelligence and armed services committees rarely get a comprehensive view."

Or any "view" at all, which is precisely what the CIA and Pentagon have long desired; an oversight-free zone where American policymakers operate, as Dick Cheney infamously put it, on the "dark side," a position fully-embraced by the "hope and change" administration of Barack Obama.

Awlaki's state-sponsored killing, like the May 2 murder of Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, resurface many unanswered questions concerning the 9/11 attacks, the so-called trigger for America's global "War on Terror."

But before turning to those issues, it is necessary to take a detour and examine administration actions; specifically the deliberations undertaken by Obama's national security team which culminated in Awlaki's death.

White House "Death Panel"

Unlike the fantasies of the corporate-controlled Tea Party who charged during the run-up to the White House sell-out of health care reform that the administration would create "death panels" to deny care to the elderly, it has since emerged that Team Obama has stood-up the authentic article.

According to The Washington Post, President Obama's Justice Department "wrote a secret memorandum authorizing the lethal targeting" of Awlaki. The Post reports that the memorandum "was produced following a review of the legal issues raised by striking a U.S. citizen and involved senior lawyers from across the administration. There was no dissent about the legality of killing Aulaqi."

That memorandum, according to The New York Times, was drafted in June 2010, some six months after Awlaki had been placed on the White House hit list, by Office of Legal Counsel attorneys "David Barron and Martin Lederman."

Both former OLC lawyers are prominent "liberals" from prestigious universities; Barron at Harvard and Lederman at Georgetown University.

Ironically enough, in several scholarly articles they had railed against the previous administration's adaptation of the "Unitary Executive Theory" promulgated by "torture memo" authors Jay Bybee and John Yoo.

Under Bush, OLC opinions were used to justify everything from warrantless wiretapping, the domestic deployment of the military to arrest Americans, to the torture and indefinite detention of "terrorist" suspects at the Guantánamo Bay prison gulag and CIA "black sites."

This of course begs the question: if Awlaki's murder was "legal," why then was the authorization to do so reached in camera by officials following a deliberative process which can't be shared with the public because of "national security"?

The answer should be chilling and shocking to all Americans: because the nucleus of a death squad state recalling those stood-up in Chile and Argentina during the "dirty war" period of the 1970s may now exist.

Reuters disclosed that Americans "are placed on a kill or capture list by a secretive panel of senior government officials, which then informs the president of its decisions, according to officials."

"There is no public record of the operations or decisions of the panel," reporter Mark Hosenball wrote, "which is a subset of the White House's National Security Council. ... Neither is there any law establishing its existence or setting out the rules by which it is supposed to operate."

According to Reuters, "targeting recommendations are drawn up by a committee of mid-level National Security Council and agency officials. Their recommendations are then sent to the panel of NSC 'principals,' meaning Cabinet secretaries and intelligence unit chiefs, for approval."

A "former official" told Hosenball that "one of the reasons for making senior officials principally responsible for nominating Americans for the target list was to 'protect' the president," i.e., provide Obama legal cover under the thin veneer afforded by "plausible deniability."

McClatchy News reported that "broadly speaking" White House orders to kill Awlaki were based on claims that "the nation's inherent right of self-defense [is] recognized under international law." However, "international law also imposes limits: Targeted killing is banned except to protect against 'concrete, specific and imminent' danger."

And although the administration now claims that Awlaki was targeted for death because "his role in AQAP had gone 'from inspirational to operational'," Reuters disclosed that "officials acknowledge that some of the intelligence purporting to show Awlaki's hands-on role in plotting attacks was patchy."

In fact, the White House has failed to provide any proof whatsoever that Awlaki posed an "imminent danger" to the United States, although there is considerable evidence that he was on the radar of U.S. and allied secret state intelligence agencies for more than a decade, had close ties to several of the 9/11 hijackers and could have been picked up and indicted at any time.

Instead, federal law enforcement officials gave Awlaki a green light to leave the United States, unlike thousands of innocent Muslim-Americans swept-up and detained by the FBI in the post-9/11 hysteria that followed the attacks.

A "former military intelligence officer who worked with special operations troops to hunt down high-value terrorism targets," told the right-wing Washington Times: "I think it's pretty easy to understand why they didn't take him alive. Would you want to deal with the hassle of trying to put him on trial, an American citizen that has gotten so much press for being the target of a CIA kill order? That would be a nightmare. The ACLU would be crawling all over the Justice Department for due process in an American court."

That about sums up the dominant mindset of an Empire in sharp decline: the rule of law and due process for criminal suspects reduced to a "hassle."

Slouching Towards Dictatorship

Obama's national security team justified whacking Awlaki, as with their earlier hit on Osama Bin Laden, by referencing the Bush-era Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), hastily passed by Congress in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

"A decade later," McClatchy reported, "the Obama administration contends that this wartime authority remains even if it's evolved for reasons the administration won't fully elucidate."

The relevant section of AUFM reads: "IN GENERAL -- That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons." (emphasis added)

Readers will undoubtedly note that in passing the resolution, Congress not only ceded its authority to declare war to the Executive Branch but also planted the seeds of the administration's preemptive war doctrines along with an unprecedented expansion of its domestic surveillance powers.

More pertinently, is the reason why the administration "won't fully elucidate" how the Bush-era AUMF "evolved" chiefly due to the fact that secret annexes now exist which authorize the killing of Americans, not only in Yemen or other "War on Terror" fronts, but right here in the United States itself?

After all, it's not beyond the Obama administration to play fast and loose with the truth or hide repressive policies under layers of top secret presidential "findings" or a multitude of CIA and Pentagon black programs, as did the previous Bush government.

Recall that during the run-up to the reauthorization of three expiring provisions of the USA Patriot Act, civil libertarians decried the use of secret legal memos justifying everything from unchecked access to internet and telephone records to the deployment of government-sanctioned malware on private computers during "national security" investigations.

Recall too, that the Obama administration, as The New York Times disclosed in June, handed the FBI "significant new powers to its roughly 14,000 agents, allowing them more leeway to search databases, go through household trash or use surveillance teams to scrutinize the lives of people who have attracted their attention."

These "news rules," the Times averred, will give agents "more latitude" to investigate citizens even when there is no evidence they have exhibited "signs of criminal or terrorist activity."

It gets worse.

Last month, The New York Times revealed that the FBI "is permitted to include people on the government's terrorist watch list even if they have been acquitted of terrorism-related offenses or the charges are dropped."

Under these new standards, the Bureau may deem someone a "known or suspected terrorist," not based on evidence gathered through a criminal investigation, but solely if officials have "particularized derogatory information," including that derived from First Amendment protected activities, to support to support an individuals' watch listing or placement on a "no-fly" list.

One administration wag, speaking on condition of anonymity because to do otherwise would reveal "closely held deliberations within the administration," but did so anyway because this was clearly a sanctioned leak to stenographer Peter Finn, told The Washington Post that "what constitutes due process in [the Awlaki case] is a due process in war."

"The administration officials refused to disclose the exact legal analysis used to authorize targeting Aulaqi," Finn wrote, "or how they considered any Fifth Amendment right to due process."

We now know, thanks to Reuters, that authorization came from a White House death panel, an extra-constitutional committee of anonymous officials operating outside the rule of law.

As we have seen since Barack Obama took office, as under the previous Bush government, the Constitution is a meaningless scrap of paper with some words on it, duly trotted out on national holidays only to be cast aside in practice; that is, when it isn't used as a rhetorical hammer against assorted "new Hitlers" or geopolitical rivals whose resources corporate America seek to "liberate."

Dead Men Tell No Tales

As toxic to democratic norms and the rule of law as the Awlaki affair clearly is, there are underlying parapolitical themes surrounding his murder which strengthen suspicions that what took place in Yemen on September 30 is more than just another story about an overt power grab by the Executive Branch.

While the government and media continue to cover-up the role played by the CIA and other secret state agencies in alleged intelligence "failures" leading up to the 9/11 attacks, evidence suggests that the Awlaki killing, as with last May's murder of former bête noire and on-again, off-again ally, Osama Bin Laden, may have been a "clean-up" operation designed to remove inconvenient witnesses with knowledge of Agency involvement in the plot.

As Antifascist Calling reported nearly two years ago in the wake of the aborted 2009 bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day over Detroit, a plot for which Awlaki was accused of orchestrating, though evidence can't be supplied because it's "secret," The Washington Post disclosed that Awlaki had extensive contacts with 9/11 hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi, Khalid Almihdhar and Hani Hanjour who "had spent time at his mosques in California and Falls Church."

In a series of 2010 articles (here, here, here and here), I reported on the stark parallels between September 11 and the Flight 253 affair.

And as with the 2001 attacks we were told "changed everything," far from being a failure to "connect the dots," intelligence and law enforcement officials possessed sufficient information that should have prevented accused bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, from boarding that plane and placing the lives of nearly 300 air passengers at risk.

And wile Awlaki wasn't given a free pass by the administration in that botched attack, earlier government failures to apprehend him certainly set the stage.

According to History Commons, "shortly before the [FBI] investigation [into Awlaki's alleged ties to the now-shuttered Holy Land Foundation] is closed," in 2000, Awlaki "is beginning to associate with hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar shortly before the investigation ends."

"For instance," History Commons avers, "on February 4, one month before the FBI investigation is closed, al-Awlaki talks on the telephone four times with hijacker associate [and suspected Saudi intelligence agent] Omar al-Bayoumi."

"The 9/11 Commission will later speculate that these calls are related to Alhazmi and Almihdhar, since al-Bayoumi is helping them that day, and that Alhazmi or Almihdhar may even have been using al-Bayoumi's phone at the time. Al-Bayoumi had also been the subject of an FBI counterterrorism investigation in 1999."

Keep in mind that at least two of the hijackers, Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar, figure prominently in recent revelations by researcher Kevin Fenton, the author of Disconnecting the Dots.

In a recent conversation with Boiling Frogs Post's Sibel Edmonds and Peter B. Collins, Fenton said that during the course of his investigation, drawn from the Congressional 9/11 Joint Inquiry, the 9/11 Commission, the Justice Department's Inspector General's report, and the CIA's still-redacted Inspector General's report, he discovered that the CIA had deliberately withheld information from the FBI that the future hijackers had entered the United States with multiple entry visas issued in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Even though the Agency had identified the pair as international terrorists who attended a 2000 Al-Qaeda summit in Malaysia where they and others, including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Khallad Bin Attash, one of the principle architects of the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, planned the assault on the USS Cole and the 9/11 attacks, they kept this from the FBI, information that could have led straight to the heart of Al-Qaeda's "planes operation."

Fenton provides substantial evidence that the CIA's Alec Station Director Richard Blee and deputy, Tom Wilshire, concealed intelligence from investigators, concluding this "information was intentionally omitted in order to allow an al-Qaeda attack to go forward against the United States."

As part of this continuing cover-up, Awlaki's ties to the 9/11 hijackers were far more extensive than secret state officials have led us to believe.

In fact, although the Obama administration has justified killing Awlaki with false claims that he was AQAP's "external operations" chief, his role before 9/11 was substantially more significant from an investigatory perspective: that of a "fixer," first in San Diego where he assisted Saudi spook Omar al-Bayoumi in "settling" Alhazmi and Almihdhar, and later in Falls Church, Virginia, where he did the same for Hani Hanjour.

In 2002, Newsweek revealed that "some federal investigators suspect that al-Bayoumi could have been an advance man for the 9-11 hijackers, sent by Al Qaeda to assist the plot that ultimately claimed 3,000 lives."

"Two months after al-Bayoumi began aiding Alhazmi and Almihdhar," Newsweek disclosed, "al-Bayoumi's wife began receiving regular stipends, often monthly and usually around $2,000, totaling tens of thousands of dollars.

Payments arrived "in the form of cashier's checks, purchased from Washington's Riggs Bank by Princess Haifa bint Faisal, the daughter of the late King Faisal and wife of Prince Bandar, the Saudi envoy who is a prominent Washington figure and personal friend of the Bush family."

With startling similarities to the Awlaki case, ten days after the attacks, al-Bayoumi is picked up by British authorities in London, where he had relocated in July 2001, at the request of the FBI. Although his phone calls, bank accounts and associations are scrutinized, the Bureau claim they found no connections to terrorism.

The Washington Post will report that by 2002 the FBI had concluded, the same year Awlaki leaves the U.S., "that no evidence could be found of any organized domestic effort to aid the hijackers."

Recall that new information linking some members of the Saudi royal family and its intelligence apparatus to the attacks has recently surfaced. Last month, The Miami Herald revealed that two weeks before the kamikaze assaults on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, a Saudi family "abruptly vacated their luxury home near Sarasota, leaving a brand new car in the driveway, a refrigerator full of food, fruit on the counter--and an open safe in a master bedroom."

Investigative reporters Anthony Summers and Dan Christensen learned that "law enforcement agents not only discovered the home was visited by vehicles used by the hijackers, but phone calls were linked between the home and those who carried out the death flights--including leader Mohamed Atta--in discoveries never before revealed to the public."

"Ten years after the deadliest attack of terrorism on U.S. soil," Summers and Christensen wrote, "new information has emerged that shows the FBI found troubling ties between the hijackers and residents in the upscale community in southwest Florida, but the investigation wasn't reported to Congress or mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report."

In a follow-up piece that significantly advanced the story, researcher Russ Baker reported on the WhoWhatWhy web site "that those alleged confederates were closely tied to influential members of the Saudi ruling elite."

Building on information first disclosed by the Herald, Baker, the author of Family of Secrets, reports that this "now-revealed link" between those who consorted with the hijackers in Florida "and the highest ranks of the Saudi establishment, reopens questions about the White House's controversial approval for multiple charter flights allowing Saudi nationals to depart the U.S., beginning about 48 hours after the attacks, without the passengers being interviewed by law enforcement--despite the identification of the majority of the hijackers as Saudis."

Is there a pattern between the hands-off treatment afforded well-connected Saudis and Anwar al-Awlaki's casual, and inexplicable, flight from the United States?

"After 9/11" History Commons points out, "the FBI will question al-Awlaki, and he will admit to meeting with Alhazmi several times, but say he does not remember what they discussed. He will not claim to remember Almihdhar at all." Other accounts suggest that the relationship was much closer.

"The 9/11 Congressional Inquiry," History Commons avers, "claim that Alhazmi and Almihdhar 'were closely affiliated with [al-Awlaki] who reportedly served as their spiritual adviser during their time in San Diego. ... Several persons informed the FBI after September 11 that this imam had closed-door meetings in San Diego with Almihdhar, Alhazmi, and another individual, whom al-Bayoumi had asked to help the hijackers'."

"Around August 2000," History Commons reports, "al-Awlaki resigns as imam and travels to unknown 'various countries.' In early 2001, he will be appointed the imam to a much larger mosque in Falls Church, Virginia. During this time frame, Alhazmi, Almihdhar, and fellow hijacker Hani Hanjour will move to Virginia and attend al-Awlaki's mosque there."

Anecdotally, in 2003 Newsweek reports: "Lincoln Higgie, an antiques dealer who lived across the street from the mosque where Aulaqi used to lead prayer, told Newsweek that he distinctly recalls the imam knocking on his door in the first week of August 2001 to tell him he was leaving for Kuwait. 'He came over before he left and told me that something very big was going to happen, and that he had to be out of the country when it happened,' recalls Higgie."

The antiques dealer later told The New York Times, that when he learned that Awlaki would be permanently leaving San Diego, "he told the imam to stop by if he was ever in the area--and got a strange response." Higgie said, "'I don't think you'll be seeing me. I won't be coming back to San Diego again. Later on you'll find out why'."

Although the FBI suspected Awlaki "had some connection with the 9/11 plot," authorities claim there wasn't enough evidence to charge him, nor can he be deported because he's an American citizen. And when the Bureau hatched an ill-conceived plan to arrest him on an obscure charge of "transporting prostitutes across state lines," that plan collapsed when Awlaki left the U.S. in March 2002.

"But on October 10, 2002," History Commons reports, "he makes a surprise return to the U.S." Although his name is on a terrorist watch list and he is detained by Customs' officials when he lands in New York, they are informed by the FBI that "his name was taken off the watch list just the day before. He is released after only three hours."

"Throughout 2002," History Commons informs us, Awlaki is the "subject of an active Customs investigation into money laundering called Operation Greenquest, but he is not arrested for this either, or for the earlier contemplated prostitution charges. At the time, the FBI is fighting Greenquest, and Customs officials will later accuse the FBI of sabotaging Greenquest investigations."

Awlaki again leaves the U.S., this time for good. Although the FBI admits they were "very interested" in Awlaki, they fail to stop him leaving the country. One FBI source told U.S. News and World Report, "We don't know how he got out."

Inexplicably however, it was not until 2008 that secret state officials concluded that Awlaki was an Al-Qaeda operative! This beggars belief, and raises the question as to why he was allowed to leave in the first place. It certainly can't be for lack of evidence or that when Awlaki set-up shop, first in London and finally in Yemen, he is continually under surveillance by British, Yemeni and American intelligence agencies.

Although interviewed four times by the FBI after September 11, the Bureau concluded, according to The New York Times, that Awlaki's "contacts with the hijackers and other radicals were random."

Other investigators however, disagreed. "One detective," the Times reported, whose name has been scrubbed from 9/11 Commission files, told staff that he believed Awlaki "was at the center of the 9/11 story." At the time of the Flight 253 affair, I wrote that "despite, or possibly because of these dubious connections he was allowed to leave the country."

In fact, the curious disinterest exhibited by authorities in bringing Awlaki to ground following September 11, were neither "errors in judgement" nor "mistakes" by overtaxed investigators but are rather, a modus operandi which suggests that Awlaki and others were part of a CIA domestic operation which allowed the 9/11 plot to go forward.

Nothing in what I have written above should be construed as justification for the extrajudicial assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki. In fact, the opposite conclusion can be drawn. The available evidence indicates that Awlaki could have been arrested multiple times. At the least serious end of the criminal justice spectrum he could have been charged with providing "material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization," to whit, Al-Qaeda, and legally taken out of circulation.

That he wasn't and continued to operate freely as a propagandist, despite substantial corroboration from multiple law enforcement sources that he was a key figure in the pre-9/11 domestic support network, suggests that Awlaki may have been a double agent, albeit one who had decidedly gone "off the reservation."

Awlaki's handling by authorities raise serious questions about just how extensive U.S. support for Al-Qaeda was prior to, and possibly even after the September 11 attacks, particularly in resource-rich global hot-spots.

As numerous journalists and researchers have painstakingly documented, Al-Qaeda, allied terrorist outfits and international narco-trafficking networks have a long, sordid history of supporting U.S. covert operations that targeted America's geopolitical rivals even as Bin Laden's far-flung organization plotted to attack the United States itself.

In this light, Awlaki's "targeted killing" as with the earlier hit on Osama Bin Laden, may be part of a larger CIA/Pentagon operation to remove inconvenient participants and witnesses from the scene who might have a thing or two to say about the crimes and intrigues hatched by the imperialist Empire.

Afghanistan's energy war....

Violence escalated daily in Afghanistan with the approach of the 10-year anniversary of the United States invasion on October 7. At the same time, a little-noted energy agenda is moving rapidly forward that may not only deny Afghans the much needed economic benefits their energy resources could provide, but may also exacerbate insecurity and instability, ensuring a prolonged US and foreign military presence. It is an agenda remarkably similar to one well underway in Iraq.

Eight years of war in Iraq succeeded in transforming the country's oil industry from a nationalized model, largely closed to American oil companies, into an all but privatized industry open to foreign oil companies. ExxonMobil and BP, among other companies, are today producing oil in Iraq for the first time in over 30 years under some of the most corporate-friendly terms in the world.

However, opposition from Kurdish leaders, Iraqi unions, civil society organizations, and some parliamentarians - who worry that the terms would grant undue benefit to foreign companies, to the detriment of Iraq's economic stability and security - has kept the Iraq Oil and Gas Law, written to lock in this access, from passage.

But while the effort to transform Iraq's oil sector has played out on a fairly public international stage, no such attention has been focused on Afghanistan. Compared with Iraq, Afghanistan's populace remains poorly educated, its civil society and public sector workforce underdeveloped, and its government not only weak and challenged by corruption, but also lacking in both energy sector expertise and infrastructure. Under such circumstances, a radical redesign of the nation's energy development model cannot take place in a manner that ensures fairness, equity, sustainability, or safety.

Suspect intentions
Afghanistan's known hydrocarbons are primarily located in the north. Its approximately 1.6 billion barrels of crude oil and 15.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas are minor in comparison with the resources of its neighbors (Iraq's oil reserves are estimated at 115 billion barrels), but are comparable to those in nations such as Chad and Equatorial Guinea - and may be considerably larger, as there has been no significant exploration in decades.

Unknown to most Afghans, in January 2009 the government implemented a new Hydrocarbon Law that transforms its oil and natural gas sectors from fully state-owned to all but fully privatized. In April 2011, the Afghanistan Ministry of Mines launched the first of what it expects to be "several tenders for Afghanistan's oil and gas resources over the next few years".

As in Iraq, the contracts include production-sharing agreements. These agreements are the oil industry's preferred model, but are roundly rejected by all the top oil-producing countries in the Middle East because they grant extremely long-term contracts (45 years or more, including the exploration phase, under Afghanistan's law) and greater control, ownership, and profits to the companies than other models. They are used for only approximately 12% of the world's oil. The Afghanistan contracts, moreover, would not require foreign companies to invest earnings in the Afghan economy, partner with Afghan companies, or share new technologies.

The Kabul-based non-profit watchdog, Integrity Watch Afghanistan, found the Ministry of Mines severely lacking in the capacity to implement sound oversight, including to protect impacted communities and the environment, and found that this, "combined with reported endemic corruption in Afghanistan", means that the Afghan government will not be able to ensure the good management of these resources.

The Norwegian government recently concluded an analysis of Afghanistan's hydrocarbons, finding that "most Afghans express a high level of suspicion about the motives and intentions of neighboring countries and, increasingly, also of the international community. Further, "[M]any Afghans point out the risk of a lack of political willingness to ensure that such benefits [from hydrocarbon development] will have a fair distribution."

Pipeline politics
Afghanistan is not only an energy producer, it is also a potential "energy conveyer". Negotiations for the creation of a Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline are progressing at a rapid rate. Just last month, Afghanistan Minister of Mines Wahidullah Shahrani reported, "The implementation of the TAPI project will begin in 2012 and will be completed in 2014."
The pipeline would carry natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India. It has been an objective of United States and Western energy companies (and their governments) that have invested in the land-locked but energy-rich countries of the Caspian region since the mid-1990s, when companies including California-based Unocal began negotiating with the Taliban. Sanctions imposed on Afghanistan in 1998 made it impossible for US companies to do business there, so negotiations stalled until 2001, when sanctions were lifted.

The George W Bush administration made completion of the TAPI a core part of its Afghanistan war strategy. As then-US assistant secretary of state Richard Boucher said in 2007: "One of our goals is to stabilize Afghanistan, so it can become a conduit and a hub between South and Central Asia so that energy can flow to the south."

This March, US Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake Jr reiterated the importance of the TAPI before a congressional committee, and in July Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while in India urged completion of the TAPI.

In April, upon the Afghan parliament's approval of a TAPI gas pricing agreement, parliamentarian Mohammad Anwar Akbari said that "we will have support of a US company" for its construction. In the past year, Minister of Mines Shahrani has been pushing the benefits of both the pipeline and natural resource development in Afghanistan to private companies in London and New York.

The price for entry
The primary obstacle to construction of the pipeline and to foreign oil companies actively seeking oil production contracts is, and always has been, security. In response, Minister Shahrani announced plans for a 7,000-person Afghan "pipeline security force". Yet across Afghanistan there is enormous skepticism about the present capacity of the Afghan National Army and Police, who are considered no match for the Taliban or local warlords.

Yet, if the pipeline is constructed and US companies begin producing in Afghanistan, its importance to the West will only intensify, as will the desire to keep Afghanistan "open for business". If Afghanistan does not have the internal capacity to provide this "openness" itself, the Untied States and other foreign governments may feel forced to do so on its behalf – utilizing their own troops.

The focus on Afghanistan's entry into the "Great Game" of energy politics must not be only on generating profits or for the interests of external actors, but also on the long-term stability, independence, and strength of Afghanistan. Otherwise, the price for entry may be far higher than Afghans - and Americans - wish to pay.

في الخطاب الذي ألقاه رئيس الوزراء التركي رجب طيب أردوغان على وزراء الخارجية العرب في القاهرة أقف عند جملتين منه أولاهما ان "تركيا والعرب يشتركون في العقيدة والثقافة والقيم". العقيدة، بلا منازع، هي الاسلام. هنا كلام يتضمن ان دولته لا يرى وجود اثني عشر مليون مسيحي عربي على الأقل وهؤلاء لا ينتظرون من اجنبي تحديد هويتهم القومية. في ما يختص بالثقافة اللغة التي كان لها أثر كبير في الأناضول هي اللغة الفارسية. بعد محمد الفاتح صارت القسطنطينية قطب جذب للشعراء العرب والفرس حتى تأصل التركي البسيط. ولكن بعامة لم يبقَ من تأثير عربي غير مختلط بالأثر الفارسي حول القرنين الخامس عشر والسادس عشر.

بظهور التنظيمات في القرن التاسع عشر اتجهت تركيا ادبياً نحو الغرب. ثم مع حرب الاستقلال وإعلان الجمهورية التركية السنة الـ 1923 تصلّب الشعور التركي حتى جاء ناظم حكمت الثوري (1902-1963) ثم اتسع الأفق بدءًا بالسنة 1939 بالترجمات والاتجاه نحو الفكر المجتمعي والسياسي. ما هو حي الآن في الأدب لا علاقة له بالعروبة. اما القيم التي يشير اليها السيد اردوغان على انها مشتركة بيننا وبينهم فمنها القديم والحديث، فما من شك ان القديم غير ضاغط علينا واننا تواقون الى الحداثة وذائقون اوروبا بعمق في حين ان الأتراك متعلقون بالعتيق بشدة واوروبا عندهم أمل في الانصهار السياسي بها استكمالا لحلف شمال الأطلسي الذي يجمعهما ويجعل تركيا قوية في دنيا العرب على رجاء عثمانية ما العرب فيها حليف صغير لا شريك كبير.

اما الأكثر مخافة مما سبق فقول السيد اردوغان: "كان في التاريخ التركي شاب تولى انهاء حضارة سوداء وتدشين حضارة جديدة عريقة عندما فتح اسطنبول وهو محمد الفاتح". انا لا اناقش عراقة الحضارة التركية وعظمتها. ولكن ابدأ بسؤال للسيد اردوغان لا ينبغي ان يصدمه وهو هل قرأ الحضارة البيزنطية التي يسميها سوداء. الأتراك عسكر اقوياء استطاعوا مع مؤامرة الأساطيل الغربية التي كانت تربض هناك ان يغلبوا اعظم فكر حضاري السنة الـ1453. ولكن كيف يريد السيد اردوغان ان يقنعنا ان الحضارة المتكاملة العناصر والخلاقة والسامية روحيا حتى السماء كانت سوداء. كيف لا يرى ان نهضة اوروبا ما اخذت تظهر الا بهجرة العقول البيزنطية الى الغرب الذي اقتبس منهم العقل الاغريقي وانشأ الفكر الحديث؟

الحضارة البيزنطية اهم ما فيها الثقافة. عرفت الخط مكتوبا باليونانية واللاتينية في اعمال المؤرخين القدامى ورسائل في الزراعة والفن العسكري، في الطب والطب البيطري، في تأويل الأحلام، كل هذا الف مكتبة كبيرة. اليها كانت مكتبة البطريركية المسكونية التي كانت تحوي أعمال المجامع وكتب الآباء. الى هذا مكتبات خاصة. هنا وهناك كتب طقوسية. ندرة الكتب نابعة من كونها غالية. الوصول الى الكتاب يسهل في العائلات الغنية. المدرسة الابتدائية يشرف عليها الأسقف، يتعلّم الولد فيها القراءة والكتابة والحساب. الكتاب الرئيس هو المزامير. في المدرسة علم الجمل حيث لكل حرف قيمته في الرقم كما في العالم العربي. الترتيل متقن في المدارس.

كل الأولاد كانوا يتبعون المدارس الوسطى. تعلم الناس كل ما في الحضارة القديمة: هوميروس، الهندسة، البلاغة، الرياضيات. كانت الفلسفة تتضمن اللاهوت والرياضيات، الموسيقى، علم الفلك، الطبيعيات. في القرن الثالث عشر ظهر في الترجمة اعمال لاتينية وفارسية وعربية. أخذ القوم عن اللاتينية مفردات الحياة الإدارية وعن العربية تلك المتعلقة بالنسيج. كانت الكنيسة متعلقة باللغة القديمة. عرفت القسطنطينية غير مؤسسة جامعية، ثم كان للبطريركية تعليم جامعي.

المعرفة العالية كان لا بد ان تتضمن تفسير الكتاب المقدس، وبعد تحديد العقيدة ظهرت المفردات اللاهوتية. لقد اثر النسك والتصوف في التعليم وتركزت العقيدة على كتب يوحنا الدمشقي. الصوفيون الكبار كانوا سمعان اللاهوتي الحديث وغريغوريوس بالاماس ونيقولاوس كبازيلاس. هنا تظهر سير القديسين. الكتب الطقوسية وضعت بين القرن الرابع والقرن الخامس عشر وعليها يعيش الارثوذكسيون حتى اليوم. جزء اساسي من الثقافة البيزنطية ان تعرف استعمال كتب العبادات ولا سيما حسب الأعياد والمواسم.

ثم تأتي الأعمال الأدبية الموضوعة بلغة العلماء. وتعالج التاريخ والجغرافية والفن العسكري والبلاغة والقصة، والفلسفة والألسنية وقواعد اللغة.

التاريخ يبدأ من بدء الخليقة وينتهي عند زمن الكاتب. الى هذا الفلسفة اليونانية التي أظهرت اباء الكنيسة. وقد استعار الفكر المسيحي مصطلحات الفلسفة لينتقل ورأى انه يكمل الفكر القديم بالوحي. غير انها بقيت مستقرة في جوهرها. استعملت أساليب مختلفة في بناء اللاهوت غير ان عدد الفلاسفة الأصيلين كان قليلا ولكن كثر العالمون بالآداب اليونانية الكلاسيكية والنقاد وعلماء اللغة وبرز شعراء مسرحيات.

لعل اجمل ما كتب الشعر الديني. كل ما يسمى في الصلوات القنداق والقانون شعر. الى هذا عرفت بيزنطية الشعر الشعبي والقصة بالفصحى وبالعامية. كذلك عرف علماء رياضيات وفيزياء وبصريات.

عرف البيزنطيون علم الحيوان من الناحية التطبيقية وعلم النبات التطبيقي اي استعمال النبات في الطب والصيدلة. اخذوا الخيمياء عن سترابون وطبقوها في المعادن والصبغة والأدوية والزجاج.
على الصعيد الطبي في التنظيم الصحي. أسست مستشفيات وصار للأطباء تعليم نظامي وعززت مواردهم. اشتهروا في علم العين: بولس من ايجينا كان دارس الجراحة والتوليد وأثر في الطب العربي. ميخائيل بسيلوس وضع قاموسا في الأمراض. خصصوا كتبا في طب الأسنان والتمعوا في البيطرة وفي طعام الحيوان. الصيدلة كانت عندهم جزءا من تعليم الطب وأخذوا في الصيدلة شيئا من العرب والفرس.

عظمت الخطابة وسيلة للدعوة السياسية او الدينية. ومن الخطابة الوعظ الذي اشتهر فيه يوحنا الذهبي الفم في القرن الرابع ومطلع الخامس في أنطاكية والقسطنطينية ولدينا مواعظه في اللغة اليونانية مترجمة الى معظم اللغات الأوروبية وبعضها الى العربية.

ظهرت الأيقونة الخشبية او الجدارية في الامبراطورية ولا سيما لتعليم الأميين. منذ القرن الرابع بدأ الرسم كما الفسيفساء. اقدم الفسيفساء (العذراء، القديس جاورجيوس) في سالونيك. القليل حفظ في ايا صوفيا وبقيت ايقونات كشف عنها من عهد أتاتورك. القليل في قبرص والأكثر في رافينا (ايطاليا). وبسبب غلاء الفسيفساء استعيض عنها بالرسم الجداري الذي عرف كثيرا في ما هو الآن المشرق العربي وهو في حال التجدد اليوم في كل انحاء سوريا ولبنان. كذلك زينت المخطوطات بالتصاوير ولا سيما كتب الأناجيل. وارتبطت الصور بصناعة الصياغة والتطريز.

انتبهت الكنيسة الى ضرورة الأيقونة في المجمع المسكوني السابع وحددت تكريمها تحديدا عقديا في السنة الـ787 ملأت الكنائس والبيوت في الدنيا الارثوذكسية وكان بادئ التنظير لها القديس يوحنا الدمشقي الذي عاش راهبا في فلسطين وتبنت الكنيسة رأيه في الأيقونة وهو القائل ان التجسد الإلهي يفرضها. ان روحانية الايقونة في كل بيت ارثوذكسي في العالم الى جانب استلهامها في الكنائس كان من العوامل التي حفظت الايمان.

كل البيزنطيين، كما يؤكد المؤرخون، كانوا مؤمنين. اذا وجدوا راهبا في الطريق يطلبون بركته. في هذا الجو لك ان تفهم اهتمامهم بالمرضى والفقراء.
لقد ظلم بعض الأباطرة لكن بعضهم تركوا الملك ودخلوا الديورة رهبانا. كان هذا المجتمع على خطاياه يريد ان يدشن في الأرض ملكوت الله في استقامة الرأي وطهارة السيرة. علامتها البكاء على الخطايا واللطف والتسامح والسلام والتعاطف والزهد بالمال والتقشف. هذه كلها مجتمعة بكلمة واحدة هي محبة الرب.

الأمر كله ان يهتدي الانسان من الامور الخارجية الى الامور الداخلية. بكلام آخر كل المؤمنين في وسط هذه الحضارة كان نهجهم صوفيا، بحيث تقيم في سر الله ولا تعلم حواسك شيئا مما تأخذ من إلهك وتصلي دعاء الرب يسوع في داخل قلبك مرددا اسمه مئات المرات في اليوم او ألوفا حتى تنطفئ الكلمات ويصبح قلبك كلمة.

من عرف العبادات البيزنطية التي تكونت اصلا من بلادنا يرى فيها غنى لا يتجاوزه غنى آخر. كل صلاة من الصباح الى الغروب الى نصف الليل تحمل هذه القناعة التي نعبر عنها يوم الفصح بقولنا: "المسيح قام من بين الأموات" انت في القداس ترجو الله بعد ان يأتيك جسد الرب ودمه ان يجعلك في "كمال ملكوت السماوات"، متحررا من المحاكمة في اليوم الأخير ومن الدينونة. كل هذه الصلوات الكثيفة، العميقة، البلورية وجسدك ساجد او منتصب ونفسك بلورية نابعة من الكتاب الإلهي او هي نظم له لتصبح شعرا إلهيا مع الجماعة.

اذا قرأ السيد اردوغان كل هذا هل يقدر ان يقول ان كل هذا البهاء الذي وصفناه ما قدر لنا هو حضارة سوداء؟ انت لست معذورا ان قرأتنا وفهمتنا خطأ. انت لست معذورًا ان رأيت النور ظلاما. أجدادك اقتحموا المدينة التي كانت تعرف انها وحدها آنذاك مقر الحضارة في العالم. انصف ما كان قبلك جميلا واقرأ لأنك مسؤول.

Hammarskjold returns from where life resounds

Consider: a born aristocrat with family lineage going back to the 17th century; son of a prime minister; an accomplished economist, career diplomat and author; foreign minister at 44; and, of course, the secretary-general of the United Nations at the age of 48. Dag Hammarskjold had everything going for him.

Yet, there was an ineffable sadness in him, borne out of that certain loneliness that refuses to go away. Which was what first attracted me to him when in the coziness of a bookshop in downtown Helsinki while on a holiday from Moscow, with a raging January blizzard outside knocking at the glass panes to be let in some 35 years ago, I thumbed my fingers through the volume of poetry titled “Markings”.

What instinctively struck me was not so much Hammarskjold as that W.H.Auden had edited it and written the Foreward to that Faber edition. And Auden begins recalling what drew him, in turn, to Hammarskjold. If my memory holds good, Auden said something to the effect that in the cocktail circuit in New York (where he lived in exile after leaving Britain) in the late 1950s, he often noticed this enigmatic man holding a glass of whiskey and standing uncertainly in a corner of the hall, all by himself, unable to engage the gregarious guests in small conversation. The tension within him was palpable.

Auden one day walked up to him and introduced himself. An introspective, brooding diplomat is an oxymoron. Yet, I could understand.

Through that afternoon and evening in my Helsinki hotel room I read through ‘Markings’, Hammarskjod’s spiritual diary which was found among his papers and published posthumously — on themes as varied as fear, scourge of war, anarchy, loneliness, alienation, the human condition… What hurt me most was a painfully frank poem where he brooded:

“I am being driven forward / Into an unknown land. / The pass grows steeper, / The air colder and sharper. / A wind from my unknown goal / Stirs the strings / Of expectation. / Still the question: / Shall I ever get there? / There where life resounds, / A clear pure note / In the silence.”

Did he finally get there where life resounds? I think he did. Although a mist quickly surrounded him — the mist of the Cold War. There has always been the lurking suspicion that the western powers who picked him for the job in the UN in the high noon of the Cold War and even had him re-elected for a second term as S-G, felt relieved finally when he died. Shades of Thomas Beckett!

Hammarskjold’s closest relative has now demanded that the file be re-opened and a fresh probe be conducted about the circumstances in which the plane in which Hammarskjold was travelling was brought down and the UN’s top man was killed even as he was pushing the envelope for Africa’s liberation. Big Cold War skeletons may tumble out of the western's ZIOCONNED cupboards if Ban Ki-Moon digs deep for truth about the most infamous White House Murder INC,....

رقص تركي على حبال المنطقة... والنتيجة ؟ (العميد أمين حطيط)

يكاد الكثير من المراقبين والباحثين في سياسات دول المنطقة واستراتيجياتها يحارون في تصنيف الدولة التركية وتحديد موقعها الصحيح على هذا المسرح الاستراتيجي المشرقي مع ربطه بالمسرح الاوسع دوليا. فتركيا – حزب العدالة والتنمية برعت في السنوات الخمس الاخيرة في اطلاق المواقف المتناقضة في الزمان والمكان ذاته. تلغي مناورات مع الناتو لأن "اسرائيل" ستشارك فيها ثم تنفذ وفي الاسبوع نفسه مناورات مع "اسرائيل" وتشترط حجبها عن الاعلام، ترفض التدخل العسكري في ليبيا من اي جهة جاء ثم تشارك بصيغة او بأخرى في خطة الناتو العسكرية التي اودت بنظام معمر القذافي، تغضب لاهانة سفيرها في "اسرائيل" ثم ترفض التعامل بالمثل او اتخاذ موقف يؤلم الدبلوماسية "الاسرائيلية"، وقبل ذلك تعلن وتشهر استراتيجيتها القائمة على قاعدة "صفر مشاكل " ثم تتوجه الى الميدان بعد " التصفير " الى انتاج مشاكل جديدة مع احياء ذاكرة الآخرين بما كان من مشاكل معها ما يصحّ فيه القول بأن ادعاءها بـ "صفر مشاكل" انقلب الى "صفر ثقة" تؤدي الى شل علاقاتها بدول المنطقة ومكوناتها السياسية والاثنية، وتجميدها خلافاً لمقتضيات استراتيجية الانخراط في المنطقة والاقتران الاستراتيجي بدولها مع ما يفرضه من نسف المشاكل القائمة وبناء الثقة الثابتة والتراكمية.
أ‌. والآن وبعد المواقف التركية من سورية واسرائيل فضلا عن ايران والقضية الفلسطينية، يبدو السؤال الملح: اين تركيا في موقعها الحقيقي ؟ وهنا لانرى الاجابة صحيحة الا بالتعمق في المواقف التركية من دون الاكتفاء بالتوقف عند ظاهر الكلام وسطحية المواقف.

1) مع استراتيجيتها الجديدة اظهرت تركيا اهتماما بالقضية الفلسطينية الى الحد الذي ظن فيه البعض ان فلسطين ستحرر على يد الاتراك وحدهم تقريبا وكانت المواقف الاستعراضية التركية في الأروقة الدولية او في مياه المتوسط وضفافه توحي " بانتفاضة تركية " على التاريخ التركي في العلاقة مع اسرائيل، لكن وبدون عذر مفهوم تراخت تركيا ولاشهر طويلة عن المطالبة الجدية بدماء ابنائها الذين قتلوا بيد اسرائيلية على سفينة تركية ولم تطرد سفيراً أو تقطع علاقات دبلوماسية او سواها، لكنها امتنعت لاحقا عن تكرار تجربة اسطول الحرية لتوحي عملياً "لاسرائيل" بأنها استوعبت العملية التأديبية وتعد بعدم تكرارها، ثم وتعود وتطرد السفير "الاسرائيلي" بعد اشهر طويلة.

2) و مع استراتيجيتها الجديدة انفتحت تركيا على سورية التي تلقفت المسعى وشرعت الابواب وتناست التاريخ وبنت للمستقبل معوّلة على ان تصبح تركيا عمقا استراتيجيا مضافا الى عمق آخر باتجاه الشرق في ايران، ولكن وما ان تحرك بضعة مئات من المواطنين السوريين في شوارع درعا حتى انقلب الموقف التركي ضد سورية بحيث بدت تركيا تمارس سلوك " الاستذة " والامرة على النظام السوري كأنه نظام قاصر فاقد الولاية على النفس ومنعدم السيادة، ورغم ان سورية افرطت في محاولة استيعاب المواقف التركية حتى لا تتسرع في خسارة صديق او حليف استراتيجي محتمل تفرض الجغرافيا افضل العلاقات معه، رغم هذا استمرت تركيا في لعب دور " عدائي" ضد سورية، دور تجلى في المواقف السياسية العلنية، واحتضان من يسمون انفسهم معارضة سورية، ثم تتبنّى مشروع تنظيم الاخوان المسلمين الذين يسعون بدعم اميركي الى الاطاحة بالحكم السوري القائم، ولم تتورع تركيا في عملها ضد سورية عن دعم الحركات المسلحة وتوفير الملاذ الامن لاشخاصها وعائلاتهم عبر اقامة المخيمات فضلا عن التلويح بالتدخل العسكري ضدها سورية، وهو التدخل الذي ما كان ليصرف النظر عنه، الا من خلال التهديد الايراني الحازم برد فعل قاسٍ يشمل كل المساحة التركية وما عليها من قواعد اميركية واطلسية.

3) و مع استراتيجيتها الجديدة انفتحت تركيا على ايران الى الحد الذي اتخذتها ايران فيه " وسيطا مأمونا" في المباحاثات الدولية حول الملف النووي السلمي الذي تعمل فيه، وكانت تركيا تغالي المرة تلو الأخرى باظهار حرصها على الامن الايراني والعلاقات البينية مع ايران كونها دولة مشرقية جارة لها ودولة اسلامية تتقاطع مع حزب العدالة والتنمية باحترامها وعملها بالشريعة الاسلامية. لكن الموقف العملي الاخير والمتجسد بقبول تركيا نصب الدرع الصاروخية الاطلسي على اراضيها نسف كل الكلام المعسول، اذ انه في الوقت الذي رفضت فيه دول عدة في اوروبا الشرقية المنضوية في الحلف الاطلسي استقبال منظومة الرادارات العملاقة كجزء من الدرع الصاروخية ذاك، قبلت تركيا بإقامة تلك المنظومة على اراضيها ولجأت الى حركة مسرحية أثارت بها دخاناً سياسياً تعوِّل عليه لحجب هذا القرار الاستراتيجي البالغ الاهمية والخطورة على امن المنطقة وطبيعة النزاعات العسكرية المستقبلية حولها. اذ من المضحك والمثير للسخرية ان تحاول تركيا اقامة التوازن بين قرار تكتيكي مرحلي يمكن العودة عنه في اي لحظة ويتمثل بطرد السفير "الاسرائيلي" من انقرة (و نعتقد انه سيعود في مهلة لن تتجاوز الاشهر الى السنة ) وبين قرار استراتيجي يتمثَّل في نصب الدرع الصاروخية ضد كل من روسيا وايران وسورية لحماية "اسرائيل" والمصالح الغربية. وتعلم تركيا ان الدرع الصاروخية هذه عندما يكتمل تفعيلها ستشكل دافعا للغرب لمهاجمة ايران بعد ان يطمئن للمنظومة الدفاعية التي تحميه من الصواريخ الايرانية.
بعد كل هذا نسأل ما هي حقيقة تركيا ومواقفها واهدافها، وهنا نرى الاجابة سهلة انطلاقا من المواقف والسلوك العملي بعيدا عن الخداع والاستعراض الكلامي ويمكننا القول:

1) ان تركيا عضو اساس فاعل في الحلف الاطلسي ( الناتو )ينفذ ما يقرره الحلف بقناعة تامة وليس نتيجة قرار الاكثرية وانصياع الاقلية لان نظام الحلف قائم على مبدأ القرار بالاجماع، ما يعني انه يكفي الرفض التركي حتى يتوقف صدور اي قرار.
2) ان تركيا الاطلسية وافقت على كل ما طلب ويطلب منها في اطار الحلف الاطلسي بما في ذلك المفهوم الاستراتيجي العام للحلف والمعتمد لعقد من الزمن يبدأ في 2010، مع العلم بان هذا المفهوم يعتمد استراتيجية التدخل في الشرق الأوسط بالقوة الناعمة التي تتضمن انتاج الازمات والفتن الداخلية لبلدانه المعارضة للسياسة الغربية، وصولا الى تغيير الانظمة، او تجميدها او حملها على الانكفاء الى الداخل بعيدا عن قضايا المنطقة وهمومها. وبالتالي تلعب تركيا في هذا المجال دور طليعة او رأس القوى المتدخلة وبهذا يفهم دورها في جسر الشغور وتلويحها بالحاقه في التدخل العسكري الكامل في سورية.
3) ان سياسة تركيا تجاه اسرائيل مهما تقلبت تبقى محكومة بسقف التحالف الاستراتيجي الذي تقوده اميركا، وان الصراخ والتهديد والمد والجزر في العلاقة لا يعدو كونه تقلباً في علاقات الافراد في البيت والعائلة الواحدة المتماسكة.و بهذا نفهم طرد السفير "الاسرائيلي" من انقره على اساس انه "ثورة غضب مزيفة" تخفي مناورة للتغطية على حقائق أهم يراد حجبها.
4) ان تركيا ذات طموح اكيد بأن تسيطر على المنطقة متكئة على فئات محلية سبق لها ان تحالفت مع الغرب وأعادت تحالفها اليوم معه، وبهذا يفهم احتضانها للاخوان المسلمين الذين ستتخذهم اداتها في السيطرة، ولتكون هي يد الغرب في الامساك بالمنطقة.
وبعد هذا نعود الى السؤال : هل ستنجح تركيا في مهمتها الاطلسية ؟
قبل الاجابة نسجل بان تركيا استطاعت ان تحدث خرقاً كبيراً في العامين الماضيين لكن افتضاح امرها في سورية، وعجز الغرب عن الاطاحة بالحكم السوري سيرتدان على تركيا خسائر استراتيجية وفق ما تتوقع واكثر مما تحتمل وستجد تركيا نفسها انها لم تكن لاعباً محترفاً على حبال السياسة الشرق أوسطية، وفي المقابل ستبقى قافلة منظومة المقاومة التي جاءت تركيا لتقطع الطريق عليها ستبقى مستمرة في مسيرتها لمنع المشروع الغربي الذي يعتبر تركيا احدى ادواته، لتمنعه من تحقيق اهدافه ضد مصالح شعوب هذه المنطقة.

It's "back to the future" for the CIA in post-Qaddafi Libya....

July , 2011 -- CIA dusts off old blueprint for Libya in post-Qaddafi era....

The involvement of the ex-royal family of Libya in the Interim National Transitional Council of Libya restores the status quo ante for Libya as envisaged by the CIA in 1955.

A formerly Top Secret CIA National Intelligence Digest, dated April 1, 1955, provides the blueprint for how the CIA viewed Libya when King Idris, ousted in a 1969 coup by Muammar Qaddafi, ruled over the country. The document points out the stark differences in the 1950s between Tripolitania, which now is the base for Qaddafi's support, and Cyrenaica, where the INTC has established dominion with the help of NATO, the Gulf states, and Salafist guerrillas who once fought with Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan.

The CIA document points to the "cleavage between the Cyrenaicans, who presently dominate the federal government, and the more advanced and numerous Tripolitanians, who constitute two-thirds of the population." The Tripolitanians only achieved political parity in Libya after Qaddafi's coup and the later establishment of the Libyan "Jamahiriya."

The CIA was thrilled that under Idris, Libya played "only a secondary role" in the Arab League and was not at the forefront of the League's anti-Israel pronouncements or North African nationalism.

CIA support for Idris's regime was also based on the U.S.-Libyan air base agreements, which permitted the U.S. Air Force to establish a B-52 base at Wheelus field, near Tripoli. Qaddafi ordered the base out in 1969. The CIA document states: "US-Libyan air base agreements will provide Libya $40 million over the 20-year period of the agreement, with $4 million to be paid for the use of the base each year from 1954 through 1960, and one million dollars annually thereafter." The document also refers to a "small number of French troops in the Fezzan." The Fezzan is Libya's third province in the southern Sahel region where Qaddafi's forces and the rebels are currently vying for control. The largely black Libyans who populate the province are strongly pro-Qaddafi considering the anti-black racialist underpinnings of the INTC.

The CIA saw Libya's dependence on Western aid as a lever that the West was able to use to maintain influence over Libya: "Libya has to rely almost wholly upon foreign financial aid and technical assistance in order to carry out even a minimum development program. The UK at present provides over $10 million annually to Libya, which also receives some technical aid from the UN and the US."

The CIA also saw the transformation of Libya from a constitutional to an absolute monarchy as a way for the West to maintain its influence over the country "provided King Idris remains on the throne." The CIA analysis points out that Idris's death "might be followed by a period of intrigue during which the kingdom might be dismembered." Such "intrigue," as the document points out, "might impede, but almost certainly would not preclude, use of Libyan bases by the US and UK." The CIA predicted that after the Suez affair, the UK "might increase its interest in Libyan affairs" by stationing in Libya "some troops formerly in the Suez Zone." The CIA also reported that "King Idris has indicated that he would prefer the US to assume the role of 'protector.'"

As for France, the CIA concluded "because of strong resentment over French influence in the province of Fezzan and French repression in Morocco and Tunisia, relations with France will continue to be poor."

The backing of the INTC by the Turkish government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also has a basis in Turkish relations with the Libyan monarchy in the 1950s. The CIA document states that "Libya has recently developed diplomatic and military connections with Turkey. Further growth of Turkish influence would probably help to strengthen Libya's pro-Western orientation."

After the Qaddafi coup in 1969, the CIA used Libyan monarchists to stage a coup against the Libyan leader. In 1970, a nephew of Idris used a 8,000-man mercenary force assembled in Chad to invade and overthrow the Qaddafi government. Eleven coup plotters, including two former prime ministers, were arrested by Qaddafi's government and the coup and invasion plot failed. The monarchist coup plotters were financed and armed by the CIA.

In the late 1970s, the CIA changed course and several CIA agents were involved in a covert operation to provide Qaddafi with weapons and such "terrorist" implements as exploding lamps, ashtrays, coat hangars, teapots, according to a September 12, 1981, report in The Washington Post. The bombs were constructed at a hidden desert laboratory located in the one-time Winter Palace of King Idris. The CIA operation included CIA veteran Edwin P. Wilson and Frank E. Terpil. Wilson and Terpil were later convicted of criminal conspiracy in providing weapons to Libya but Wilson was later released from prison after it was discovered that the CIA itself conspired with the Justice Department to convict Wilson and Terpil as a method to provide "plausible deniability" for the CIA's involvement in the scheme and that Wilson was a victim of prosecutorial misconduct by the chief federal prosecutors, E. Lawrence Barcella and Carol E. Bruce.

The Post report cited two top-level former officials of the U.S. government as being involved with Wilson and Terpil: Paul Cyr, a former chief congressional liaison for the Army Materiel Command who became a top Washington lobbyist for the Federal Energy Administration, and William Weisenburger, a longtime CIA engineer who was fired by CIA director Stansfield Turner in 1977 for "assisting Wilson in constructing 10 prototype delayed-action timers for use in bombs in Libyan terrorist programs." Weisenburger later claimed that he had been "duped" by Wilson. Cyr ran behind-the-lines commando operations for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, during World War II.

Wilson's Libyan support operations were run by a network of front companies from offices located at 1425 K Street in Washington, DC. Wilson recruited as his secretary Eula Harper, the wife of John Henry Harper, an explosives expert for the CIA. Federal prosecutors maintained that Wilson's network included "former Central Intelligence Agency personnel, military special forces personnel, and U.S. corporations." However, it was later discovered that the Wilson operation, in fact, had the blessing of clandestine services officials of the CIA.

Prosecutors provided the following quote from Wilson gained from immunized grand jury testimony: "You know, the colonel [Qaddafi] may sometimes have some young colonels or something that are getting out of line that he wants to send a present to."

Chief UN accuser of Qaddafi on mass rape charges beat a rape charge in South Africa in 2005.

The unsubstantiated charge that military officers loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi presided over mass rapes of civilian women caught up in the Libyan civil war and has descended into political grandstanding by a top United Nations war crimes prosecutor, a UN human rights representative, and a group of U.S. State Department and White House officials. On April 28, two days before President Obama authorized U.S. warplanes and missiles to try to assassinate Qaddafi at Qaddafi's son's residence in Tripoli, Obama's ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, provided a puzzled UN Security Council with "intelligence" that Qaddafi's troops were being issued the male sexual enhancement drug Viagra and were committing rapes of Libyan civilian women.

Rice's "intelligence" turned out not to be from CIA sources or National Security Agency intercepts of Libyan communications, but from the pages of the London-based tabloid, The Daily Mirror, the paper once edited by Piers Morgan, the celebrity gossip hound who took over host duties on Larry King's tabloid TV show on CNN.

Pentagon officials quickly discounted Rice's allegations, emphasizing that there was no intelligence that rape was being used as a weapon against either Libyan women or underage females, as has been the case in a number of other African nations mired in civil wars and insurgencies.

Rice also used the occasion of the UN Security Council meeting to charge that Iranian troops were helping Syria to quell anti-regime street demonstrations. Again, Rice offered no proof for her allegations to the chagrin of other UN Security Council representatives.

The global corporate media blindly ignored Rice's fable, save for a report from NBC News and a few other reports in newspapers like The Guardian. Rice's fable ranked alongside other war-time tall tales as the charge in 1990 that Saddam Hussein's invading troops had thrown babies in incubators on maternity room floors in a Kuwaiti hospital, Saddam Hussein attempting to obtain yellow cake uranium from Niger, and the charge that Saddam Hussein conspired with Al Qaeda to pull off the 9/11 attack on the United States.

Rice's bogus intelligence barrage was accomplished through close coordination with International Criminal Court chief prosecutor, Argentinean lawyer Luis Moreno Ocampo and senior staff of the ICC's Office of Prosecutor (OTP); Margot Wallstrom, the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy on Sexual Violence in Conflict, a Swedish Social Democratic politician and a much disliked European Commissioner for Institutional Relations and Communication Policy who was also called the EU's "Propaganda Commissioner;" Samantha Power, a top U.S. National Security Council foreign policy adviser to President Obama; and Dr. Cass Sunstein, Power's husband and the chief of the White House Office of Information Regulatory Affairs, who is also known as Obama's "information and propaganda czar."

And it was a propaganda campaign, as evidences by Sunstein's documented policy of "cognitive infiltration" of Internet websites and the media, that ensured that the Qaddafi troops and Viagra story went virtually unchallenged by major corporate news media outlets. Libyan officials in Tripoli told this editor in June that they had never before witnessed such a disinformation campaign in the international media, particularly with regard to central government Libyan troops raping Libyan women.

Ocampo, who has served as the ICC's chief prosecutor since 2003, said he was pursuing adding the Viagra distribution and rape charge to a list of other criminals charges issued against Qaddafi and his son, Seif al Islam al-Qaddafi, by the ICC. However, Ocampo, Rice, Power, and Wallstrom had the wrong suspect in the Viagra allegation. It was, in fact, the CIA that had distributed Viagra to Afghan warlords in return for fealty to Washington. The rapes by those using Viagra had occurred not in Libya, but far way in Afghanistan. It was Al Jazeera that originally aired video showing Viagra pill packages stamped with the Pfizer logo, the manufacturer of Viagra, that were allegedly retrieved from tanks and other military vehicles abandoned by Qaddafi's forces.

Al Jazeera has become a virtual propaganda arm for the NATO offensive against Libya and the news network's patron, the government of Qatar, is a member of the NATO coalition attacking Libya and an ally of the rebel government in Benghazi. It is not name-brand drugs, but generics, that dominated the Libyan pharmaceutical black market. Similar reports that Libyan rebels were relying on weapons seized from Libyan armories were belied by the fact that the rebels were using newly un-crated Fabrique National (FN) weapons calibered for NATO ammunition rounds. the Libyan army solely used Soviet-era weaponry, including Kalashnikov rifles.

Ocampo's charge about Viagra and raoe by Qaddafi's forces was also discounted by Cherif Bassiouni, UN Human Rights Council's chief investigator for Libyan human rights abuses. Bassiouni and a U.S. State and Justice Department legal adviser said that Ocampo was engaged in a "mass hysteria" campaign. Human Rights Watch also weighed in with skepticism about the Viagra claim. However, Human Rights Watch did document in a report how Libyan rebels were abusing Libyan civilians, something that was ignored by Ocampo and the ICC, which solely had Qaddafi and his officials in its legal gun sights.

As it turns out, Dominique Strauss-Kahn is not the only international organization official who has been charged with sexually abusing an African national, in Strauss-Kahn's case, Nafissatou Diallo, a Guinean chambermaid at a Manhattan hotel.

Although his career was marked by prosecutions of Argentinean military members who took part in the "Dirty War" carried out by successive Argentine military juntas, Ocampo has been described as an "ambulance chaser" attorney, more interested in fame than in bringing Argentinean human rights abusers to justice. Ocampo represented some unpopular figures in Argentina, including Catholic priest Julio Grassi, charged with sexually abusing young boys, and former Argentine Finance Minister Domingo Cavallo, who was charged with fraud during the collapse of Argentina's economy. Moreno was accused of the intimidation and bribery of, as well as physical attacks on, key witnesses.

In October 2006, Christian Palme, the OTP's Public Information Adviser and a former intelligence analyst for Swedish military intelligence and a journalist for UPI and various Swedish media outlets, charged in an internal OTP memo that Ocampo "committed serious misconduct," to wit, "committing the crime of rape, or sexual assault, or sexual coercion, or sexual abuse" of a South African journalist a little over a year-and-a-half earlier. The alleged assault by Ocampo took place at the Lord Charles Hotel in South Africa's Western Cape province, near Cape Town. Ocampo had allegedly seized the journalist's house and car keys and refused to return them unless she agreed to have sex with the ICC's chief prosecutor. Ocampo has been at the forefront of rape investigations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Uganda, and Sudan, as well as Libya, and a number of African officials have been jailed in The Hague on charges that include mass rape of African women and girls.

Ocampo was speaking at the Transitional Justice and Human Security Conference along with Sadako Ogata, the former UN High Commissioner for Refugees; Juan Mendez, the President of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) and a UN special adviser for prevention of genocide; and Dr. Alex Boraine, chairperson of the ICTJ and an adviser to the International Freedom Center, which is also bankrolled by George Soros. ICTJ is partly funded by Soros's Open Society Institute. Other sponsors of the conference included the Soros-linked Foundation to Promote an Open Society, in addition to the CIA-linked Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

As Palme wrote in his report, Ocampo benefited from South Africa's problematic rape investigations by law enforcement. Palme wrote: "It is significant that the incident in Moreno-Ocampo’s guest suite in Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West on 28 March 2005 took place in South Africa, a state where there are widespread problems with the manner in which the justice system deals with rape allegations. Representative community-based surveys have found that in the 17-48 age group there are 2070 incidents of rape or attempted rape per 100,000 women per year in South Africa. However, only 240 such incidents per 100,000 women per year, or just one case out of nine, are reported to the police."

ICC judges exonerated Ocampo and ordered destroyed all transcripts of conversations between Palme and Ocampo's official spokesperson, Yves Sorokobi. Ocampo fired Palme for "serious misconduct." The ICC's Disciplinary Advisory Board reversed Palme's dismissal following an appeal of the decision. Ocampo disregarded the board and Palme filed a second appeal with the International Labor Organization's Administrative Tribunal. Ocampo was found by the tribunal to have put the journalist in a position where she had no other recourse but to have intercourse with Ocampo and ruled that Ocampo had breached due process by firing Palme and ordered the ICC to pay Palme €248,000 in restitution. Human Rights Watch criticized Ocampo and the ICC for the treatment of Palme. However, Palme changed the subject by indicting Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for war crimes. Among the charges were that Bashir's forces had committed rape in Darfur. Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) also charged that Ocampo was manufacturing charges against Bashir that related to genocide against Darfuris.

In fact, Ocampo was charged by Palme and others with routinely destroying critical evidence in war crimes cases. As the case of Viagra and Libya, it is clear that when Ocampo cannot manufacture or destroy evidence, he clearly creates it from whole cloth. Ocampo has been charged by many former OTP officials with running a virtual dictatorship inside the prosecutor's office.

Ocampo's arrest warrants for Bashir and Qaddafi have been roundly criticized by many current and former ICC officials, as well as by diplomats responsible for sensitive negotiations involving the governments in Khartoum and Tripoli. Nevertheless, Ocampo remains in his job and is given high marks by the usual "suspects," the neo-conservative media that continuously hones a pro-Israeli and pro-U.S. line....

Mediapart peut également révéler que M. Takieddine a reçu, entre 1997 et 1998, 91 millions d’euros pour la vente de frégates à l’Arabie Saoudite, validée en novembre 1994 par Nicolas Sarkozy en tant que ministre du budget. Et ce n'est pas tout: à partir de l'année 2003, Ziad Takieddine aurait par ailleurs consacré 11,8 millions euros à ce qui est décrit comme des «paiements secrets» en provenance de comptes offshore, selon des documents à notre disposition.

Mediapart peut également révéler que M. Takieddine a reçu, entre 1997 et 1998, 91 millions d’euros pour la vente de frégates à l’Arabie Saoudite, validée en novembre 1994 par Nicolas Sarkozy en tant que ministre du budget. Et ce n'est pas tout: à partir de l'année 2003, Ziad Takieddine aurait par ailleurs consacré 11,8 millions euros à ce qui est décrit comme des «paiements secrets» en provenance de comptesoffshore, selon des documents à notre disposition.

A l’évidence, Ziad Takieddine est l'homme qui sait tout et donc trop! En mars dernier, submergé par la colère, il a ainsi menacé de «faire sauter le gouvernement» lors d’une conversation téléphonique avec son ami Thierry Gaubert, qui est aussi un ancien collaborateur de Nicolas Sarkozy (lire notre enquête sur sa mise en cause dans une affaire de 1% logement en cliquant ici et ici). Des douaniers venaient d’interpeller M. Takieddine à l’aéroport du Bourget, porteur d’1,5 million d’euros en espèces alors qu’il revenait de Libye.

L’homme d’affaires de 61 ans raccompagnait ce jour-là en jet privé des journalistes du Journal du Dimanche partis interviewer le colonel Kadhafi. Placé en garde à vue comme un vulgaire “porteur de valises”, Ziad Takieddine avait expliqué, sans convaincre, que ces fonds correspondaient à «un transfert entre sociétés commerciales». La justice a ouvert une enquête préliminaire pour «manquements aux obligations déclaratives» et «suspicion de blanchiment», dont on est sans nouvelles depuis lors.

Mais jeudi 7 juillet, c’est au domicile du même Thierry Gaubert que des policiers de la Division nationale des investigations financières (Dnif) ont mené une perquisition. Pour, encore une fois, suivre la piste de Takieddine De nombreux témoins entendus par les juges Renaud Van Ruymbeke et Roger Le Loire, en charge du volet financier de l’affaire Karachi, l’ont en effet désigné comme l’intermédiaire imposé par le pouvoir balladurien: il s'agissait de s’assurer de substantielles«rétrocommisssions» sur les marchés d’armement signés peu avant la présidentielle de 1995. Rétrocommissions que les juges soupçonnent d'avoir alimenté le financement de la campagne électorale d'Edouard Balladur.

Ziad Takieddine a effectivement rencontré Thierry Gaubert lors de la campagne de Balladur. M. Gaubert avait suivi Nicolas Sarkozy de la mairie de Neuilly au ministère du budget – dans de petites fonctions de communication. Dans le même temps, Takieddine s’était également rapproché du couple Léotard qui venait skier dans la station Isola 2000 (Alpes maritimes), station qu’il avait gérée jusqu’en 1992. Les deux hommes avaient partagé bien des secrets de cette campagne électorale.

L’élection perdue, M. Takieddine a néanmoins multiplié par 100 sa surface financière grâce aux marchés d’armement signés en 1994 par le gouvernement Balladur — François Léotard était alors le ministre de la défense.

Le yacht, le marchand d'armes et les ministres

Ziad Takieddine est l’homme d’un clan, qu’il aime réunir pour les grandes occasions. Ainsi, ce 27 juin 2002, il célèbre lors d’un fastueux dîner la victoire de la droite à la présidentielle et aux législatives, qui marque le retour en grâce − et au gouvernement − des ex-balladuriens.

Parmi les invités, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, ancien membre de l’équipe de campagne de Balladur, ex-ministre aux affaires européennes et futur ministre de la culture; Jean-François Copé, secrétaire d’État aux relations avec le Parlement − qui avait soutenu Chirac en 1995 sans retrouver de place dans le gouvernement Juppé; Brice Hortefeux, alors membre du cabinet du ministre de l’intérieur, Nicolas Sarkozy; Christian Estrosi, alors député; et… Thierry Gaubert, placardisé depuis sa mise en cause dans des affaires immobilières des Hauts-de-Seine. Étienne Mougeotte, alors vice-président de TF1, et Thierry Dassault, l’un des fils du célèbre avionneur, sont aussi invités.

Cet aréopage sarkozyste se retrouve régulièrement dans la propriété de Takieddine au cap d’Antibes. En août 2003, Jean-François Copé et Brice Hortefeux et leurs épouses partent ainsi en mer sur La Diva, le yacht de l’homme d’affaires. Voici, ci-dessous, une des photos de cette journée:

«Je ne suis allé qu’une fois ou deux chez lui, explique Brice Hortefeux contacté par Mediapart, et je n’étais pas au gouvernement. Il avait invité tout le monde à un grand dîner. Je suis peut-être sorti en bateau, mais je n’ai pas fait de croisière avec lui.» Certains, comme Jean-François Copé, séjournent longuement dans sa villa du cap d’Antibes, comme en témoigne cette photo ci-dessous datée du 13 août 2003:

Questionné par Mediapart sur ces vacances mais aussi sur d’autres déplacements à Londres, à Venise et à Beyrouth − dont Mediapart a retrouvé la trace −, Jean-François Copé a confirmé que dans le cadre de «relations strictement amicales», «sans aucun lien» avec ses «activités électives ou ministérielles», il avait été à plusieurs reprises «invité» par Ziad Takieddine.

Selon nos informations, l’homme d’affaires a effectivement pris en charge, via la société Translebanon, les voyages de Jean-François Copé et de son épouse à Londres puis à Venise, en octobre 2004. Et encore une fois à Londres, en octobre 2005. En octobre 2003, il fait aussi visiter le Liban à celui qui est alors secrétaire d’État des relations avec le Parlement, comme en témoigne une photo ci-dessous:

Lors de ce voyage, l’intermédiaire des frégates saoudiennes et des sous-marins pakistanais dîne d'ailleurs avec le ministre dans la résidence de l’ambassadeur de France. «Ce voyage comportait en effet une partie officielle et une partie amicale», indiquait-on, dimanche 10 juillet, dans l’entourage du patron de l’UMP.

À l’époque de ces escapades, Jean-François Copé est ministre et porte-parole du gouvernement. En mars 2004, il devient ministre délégué à l’intérieur, puis en novembre 2004, il obtient le portefeuille du budget. Les documents obtenus par Mediapart font apparaître à la date du 7 avril 2004, un «avoir de la famille Copé» s’élevant à 19.050 euros dans les comptes de l’intermédiaire.
L’équipe de M. Copé n’a pas donné d’explication à Mediapart sur ce point. En particulier, il n’a pas indiqué si cet «avoir» correspondait à un remboursement finalement opéré par le ministre. «On ne voit pas de quoi il s’agit», précise-t-on du côté de l’UMP.

Le clan Sarkozy au grand complet

Sur le même relevé de comptes obtenu par Mediapart, apparaît le nom de Pierre Charon, alors conseiller de Nicolas Sarkozy au ministère de l’intérieur. Une somme tellement modeste qu’on s’étonne qu’elle y figure: 110,13 euros. Un voyage en train? Un taxi? Pierre Charon ne s’en souvient pas, même s’il admet lui aussi avoir rencontré «deux ou trois fois» l’intermédiaire, dont «une fois sur la côte». «C’était une relation commune d’amis autour de Brice», explique-t-il à Mediapart.

Une autre promenade en mer sur La Diva réunit Thierry Gaubert et Dominique Desseigne, héritier des casinos Barrière et patron du Fouquet’s, où Nicolas Sarkozy a fêté son élection à la présidence de la République en mai 2007. Dans les années 1980, M. Desseigne avait épousé l’ex-femme de Thierry Gaubert, Diane Barrière, décédée en 2001 des suites d’un grave accident. Voici une photo de cette journée en mer:

Précision utile: à l’heure de ces invitations, Ziad Takieddine s’emploie à décrocher − moyennant des contrats secrets de commissions − des marchés d’État au ministère de l’intérieur, alors dirigé par M. Sarkozy.

Le projet le plus important concerne à ce moment-là la protection des frontières de l’Arabie Saoudite, le “Saudi Border Guards Development Program”. Nom de code: Miksa. Le marché est estimé à 7 milliards d’euros! Seulement voilà, en décembre 2003, l’Élysée intervient pour stopper le ministère de l’intérieur dans ses négociations. Jacques Chirac va même jusqu’à interdire un déplacement préparatoire en Arabie Saoudite et finalement retire le dossier au ministère de l'intérieur.

Or, au sein du ministère, le contrat Miksa était géré en direct par deux hommes: Brice Hortefeux et Claude Guéant, en relation étroite avec Ziad Takieddine. «J’ai été en contact avec lui pour cette seule affaire Miksa, qui finalement ne s’est pas faite», assure Brice Hortefeux, qui admet avoir effectué l’un des voyages de négociations en Arabie Saoudite. «Ziad Takieddine avait des contacts avec les autorités, se rappelle l’ancien ministre. Est-ce qu’il a été utile au pays? Peut-être bien…»

Le fait est que l’Arabie Saoudite a, dans le passé, porté chance et fortune à Ziad Takieddine. Ainsi, dans l’entrelacs des circuits de commissions occultes mis en place entre 1993 et 1995 sur deux importants marchés d’armement, l’un avec le Pakistan, l’autre avec l’Arabie Saoudite, Ziad Takieddine a joué un rôle crucial.

11,8 millions d'euros de «paiements secrets»...

Ces deux marchés ont ceci de particulier qu’ils ont connu la même destinée une fois Jacques Chirac élu président de la République en 1995. Suspectant les balladuriens de financement occulte via ces contrats, le nouveau chef de l’État a interrompu, à l’été 1996, le versement des commissions restant dues au réseau d’intermédiaires au centre des soupçons. Ce fut une très mauvaise nouvelle pour Ziad Takieddine.
Mais selon des documents inédits auxquels Mediapart a eu accès, l’homme d’affaires franco-libanais a finalement obtenu une partie non négligeable des commissions qu’il attendait de la vente de frégates. Après avoir engagé un processus arbitral, fin 1996, il a pu ainsi obtenir, en trois versements, 130 millions de dollars sur le «compte secret» n° 3585 ouvert à la banque de la Méditerranée à Beyrouth: 75 millions le 7 avril 1997, 25 millions le 31 décembre 1997 et 30 millions le 31 mai 1998.
Ces fonds sont aussitôt répartis sur d’autres offshore, notamment la Estar Ltd, bénéficiaire de plusieurs contrats de “consultants” signés en 1995 avec la Sofresa, un office d’armement appartenant à l’État français. Ziad Takieddine assure aujourd’hui que l’intervention de Rafic Hariri auprès de Jacques Chirac en sa faveur aurait débloqué les paiements.

De fait, ces arrivées de fonds vont permettre à Ziad Takieddine d’opérer la plupart des achats immobiliers somptueux réalisés à partir de 1998: hôtel particulier à Paris, maison à Londres, villa au cap d’Antibes…
Mais ce n’est pas tout. Un tableau analytique de ses dépenses fait aussi apparaître une rubrique qui est ainsi baptisée: «Paiements secrets». Ces paiements secrets s’élèvent à 11,8 millions d’euros entre 2003 et 2008!

Interrogé, dimanche, par Mediapart sur ces versements secrets et les voyages offerts à des personnalités, Ziad Takieddine a refusé de répondre à nos questions. «Qu’est-ce que vous voulez? Vous voulez abattre un président de la République? Eh bien faites-le, à votre manière, a-t-il commenté. Je n’ai rien à vous dire, sauf vous attaquer.»

«Allez donc voir ce que Villepin a touché», a-t-il rétorqué, sans en dire plus. «Je suis un homme propre et vous êtes sale. Vous êtes une des saletés les plus performantes dans la saleté.»

It is understandable that Parachinar is referred to as Pakistan's "Gaza Strip." It is also understandable that Pakistan would set-up the final confrontation with the West here, considering that it was here that the mission began under Zia's "Islamisation" program some thirty years ago (SEE: SHIA-SUNNI JIHAD IN KURRAM: IRAN BLAMED). The American "Taliban" under Mehsud vs the real Taliban under Haqqani will come to a head, with the accompanying Pakistani airstrikes on Mehsud's forces and American Predator strikes upon Haqqani's forces, with the innocent Shia, backed by Iran caught in the middle. Sure sounds like a formula for a great conflagration on Pakistani soil

In the complicated calculus of the men who would plan our destinies for us, if we would only let them, it is often hard to fathom which line of reasoning represents their dominant thinking on any strategic subject. In Afghanistan and in Pakistan, it is getting harder to distinguish between the minimum acceptable goals for the Empire and less-desirable, though ultimately acceptable conditions for ending the war. In particular, thinking of the “pipeline wars” (which American corporations seem to be losing, badly), if America is projected to fail miserably in its plans for Central and South Asia, then what secondary objectives is the Empire preparing for the region?

Could it be possible that the rationale for the US terror war is falling apart so quickly since the big production in Abbottabad, that the secondary objective of playing spoiler for the winners in the energy war is replacing the primary mission of Central Asian energy-looting as America’s military solution for economic salvation? The war itself is unsustainable, absent the collective will of the American people to wage this war without a valid reason, or foreseeable end, the 911 attacks having been replaced long ago with whatever excuse Obama wanted to use as justification. On top of this, the bin Laden psyop is having the unintended consequence of undermining support for continuing the war and increasing the public uproar to find an end to this war that now has no adversary, in the absence of a terrorist mastermind. It is slowly winding-down to total defeat for the United States, absent another earth-shattering unifying, “Pearl Harbor-like event” in the near future. What will the American administration do to sustain this unpopular war? How far will they go to keep the Afghan/Pakistan war going?

The NATO side is currently still pursuing a policy of faking negotiations with old acquaintances of Mullah Omar, like Tayyab Aga, allegedly discussing reconciliation efforts for harmless “Taliban” (those who are not veteran Taliban fighters). These fighters are expected to turn-in their weapons for cash, even though the actual Taliban spokesmen for Mullah Omar insist that there will be no negotiations as long as occupation forces remain in Afghanistan. The US has staked-out the position that those who fought against the coalition government cannot be “reconciled,” meaning that all those who have fought against the American occupation have no other choices but to keep fighting until they die in combat, or turn themselves in for arrest. The Taliban still insist that there is nothing to talk about as long as the occupation continues. Mullah Omar has issued hand-written warning notes to local mosques stating that those who negotiate with the Americans are marked for death. There is no room for compromise there for either side. So what good will it do for US/British negotiators to talk to second or third level Taliban who have no sway with high command? It is more than likely that all of this reconciliation talk is merely for public entertainment purposes, maintaining popular support for the war and Obama, by pretending that Obama is getting it right and peace may be just around the corner.

It is becoming clear to those who care to look for the truth about the war, that the US never intended to leave Afghanistan, it has always planned to use Afghanistan and Pakistan as a military beachhead into Central Asia (SEE: Neutral Afghanistan serves regional stability). Every American spokesperson who has publicly denied these now obvious facts, has been consciously lying to the world, in order to advance this mass deception as far as possible before the American people wake-up. Researchers and analysts are breaking through the carefully constructed wall of American deception to understand just how cynically American leaders have manipulated Pakistan and India, playing them off against one another in a dangerous game of brinkmanship designed to serve only Imperial ends.

Indian and Pakistani writers have to dig deeper to understand the psyops that are still playing-out along the Durand Line. They must ask: How deep does the American deception go, or is everything about this war a deception? Only then can it become apparent the defensive actions that each nation must take, perhaps in a united action against the Imperial designs.

Indian writer M K Bhadrakumar reports on American attempts to sideline both Afghan and Pakistani governments from any negotiations with the Afghan Taliban (SEE: CIA instigating mutiny in the Pakistani army), in order to buy time to force an American compromise. His article offers the following novel explanation of why American leaders would intentionally engineer a risky potential “colonel’s coup” to unseat Gen. Kayani:

“The only way is to set the army’s house on fire so that the generals get distracted by the fire-dousing and the massive repair work and housecleaning that they will be called upon to undertake as top priority for months if not years to come.”

In the opinion of this former Indian diplomat, Washington was actively destabilizing Islamabad, and it was endangering the entire region in order to do it. A destabilized nuclear sub-continent has always been the implied result of these American machinations. It is only logical to ask whether this has always been the plan, and for what conceivable reasons? Did they really believe that they could force both Afghans and Pakistanis to follow orders that would harm their own countrymen, or that their plans would succeed even if they got everything that they wanted from them? What could American leaders hope to get out of this planned conflagration that they probably could have achieved by less violent, more honorable means? There is nothing “honorable” about this ongoing thirty-year war. Our “upstanding” national leaders have always planned to use American military muscle to protect their great redistribution of wealth (the exact opposite of the Marxist concept, the rich get everything), as they looted, raped and plundered the entire world, even our allies. It is only now, in the end game, when these things are being made clear to all who care to see.

The plan has always been to use American military muscle to create for themselves the power to dictate a political/military solution to the wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan, by sidelining all the valid neighborhood players, even the Afghan “straw man” government itself, much as it has already done for itself in Iraq. They have even applied the same time-tested formula for destabilization which was used in Iraq, but without the same results. The US is no more in position to dictate terms to Afghanistan today than it was ten years ago. Unlike Iraq, where the “Anbar solution” of tribal militias was field-tested, there are no major differences between Afghans to exploit. Iraq is nothing like Afghanistan or Pakistan. Different solutions were required, even though Pentagon and CIA geniuses only knew the one song of divide and conquer. That is why they have failed so miserably in the Far Eastern war theater.

Since they had only one song and dance routine, the CIA and their ISI counterparts have kept playing on the same theme, in their little war games, intended to hold the attention of patriotic Americans and Pakistanis. In Afghanistan, Western powers have manipulated the tribal and national differences by developing the Northern Alliance coalition of Hamid Karzai, which is mostly comprised of Uzbeks, Tajiks and Hazara Shia, as a counterfoil to mostly Pashtun Taliban forces. The anti-Taliban coalition efforts of a massive nationwide propaganda effort, supplemented with an equally massive program of enormous pay-offs, backed-up by NATO firepower have failed to buy or intimidate loyalty from local warlords or join their forces to the Karzai/Northern Alliance government.

Since Karzai’s reelection, the Western media, politicians and generals have been steadily undermining the support Karzai did have, undercutting his efforts to create a High Peace Council, probably well on their way to grooming his replacement, someone like former Afghan spymaster, Amrullah Saleh, who is already a long-term CIA asset, besides being Karzai’s exact opposite. Saleh is one of those selected individuals, unfortunate enough to be native to a CIA-targeted country, who was sent to America before 2001, for specialized training by the CIA. As a top junior aid to legendary Northern Alliance leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, he was there in Takhar Province, serving as the CIA liason, when the “Lion of Panjshir” was assassinated on September 9, 2001. He has been a favorite of the spooks since then, especially after the FBI forced him on Karzai as his new spy chief in Feb. 2004, coincidentally, just one month before Pakistani Taliban founder Abdullah Mehsud was released from two and one-half years at Guantanamo “brainwashing academy” into his custody as Afghan intelligence chief. The story of the Tehreek e-Taliban Pakistan that he helped to inspire is a tale of grief and double-crossing. They are the “poison” that was introduced into the Pakistani soil, which Saleh so colorfully described.

The Americans are hedging their bets in Afghanistan, like always, fronting two streams of the Afghan political spectrum at once. The Karzai/Rabbani alliance is backing the reconciliation talks with the Taliban that could lead to the partitioning of Afghanistan, split between the Northern Alliance and the Taliban in control of the south, in order to facilitate pipeline and development plans for the north. This is the State Dept. best solution. This position is allegedly unacceptable to Northern Alliance candidate Saleh, who advocates carpet-bombing Pakistan and night-time Special Forces decapitation raids all the way from Balochistan to Bajaur. His position is that there can never be victory in the war against the Taliban until their support lines to the Pak Army are cut. He represents the most radical factions of the CIA, who advocate total war with Pakistan.

In order to dissuade the Pak Army from continuing to support the Afghan Taliban, the CIA master-plotters have created their own versions of “lashkars,” such as the fake Pakistani Taliban, to battle and terrorize the Army and the people of Pakistan. Since 2003, Musharraf’s generals have been helping him and his successor Gen. Kayani, to revive the defeated Taliban movement as a substitute for concerted, decisive military action against the remnants of “al-Qaeda” and the Afghan Taliban leadership, who had been all been allowed to regroup in Waziristan and Balochistan by both the ISI and the CIA. They originally relocated there from northern Afghanistan in the infamous “Kunduz airlift,” where they were spared from certain annihilation at the hands of Uzbek Gen. Dostum and the Northern Alliance forces. Once they were flown there, they began to reoccupy the old CIA/ISI training camps there which had formerly been vacated after they were used to drive-out the Soviets. The IMU terrorists of Tahir Yuldeshev, who were brought across the border with Abdullah Mehsud in his instant army of fake Taliban (composed of Northern Alliance fighters), ran the camps and shared their military expertise with the new Taliban recruits being readied to keep the Afghan conflict going.

Abdullah brought his Uzbek and Chechen fighters to Wana, where they joined-up with Nek Mohammed. This was long before the Pakistani Taliban began their waves of Pakistani terrorism, when they still had the trust of the real Afghan Taliban. Because of his trust for new militant leader Baitullah Mehsud, as well as his initial distrust of Abdullah Mehsud, because of the Guantanamo years, Mullah Omar sent his hand-picked emissary, celebrated veteran commander Mullah Dadullah, to bless the Pakistani Taliban union and name Baitullah as its head. Dadullah oversaw the effort in S. Waziristan, where he had been working closely with Nek Mohammed and his successors, Abdullah and Baitullah Mehsud to develop a formidable new Taliban army of 20,000 fighters or more, including a suicide-bomber academy. After Dadullah shepherded the Waziri Accord peace treaty between the Pakistani Taliban and the Army on orders from Mullah Omar himself, Dadullah was also targeted for drone assassination, just like Nek before him (even though British Special Forces claim the kill).

Under the command of Baitullah, the Pakistani Taliban (now called Tehreek e-Taliban Pakistan, TTP) unleashed a wave of terror upon tribal leaders, government forces and the mosques of the unbelievers. At first, this terror was blamed upon the IMU terrorists who had been given shelter by the Mehsud leadership, providing an opening for the Pak Army to introduce a counter-insurgency, in the form of aggressive tribal lashkars of their own.

Local Ahmadzai Wazir militant leader Maulvi Nazir created a lashkar army of 900 heavily armed men, who proceeded to run the IMU terrorists out of his territory around Wana, S. Waziristan. The Army then began to replicate the lashkar-building process in other towns, hoping to enlist the tribals in a massive show of force to evict the “bad Taliban” and those labeled as “al-Qaeda” from Pakistan. Nothing much came from the effort, except for a bunch of dead lashkar militiamen.

Needing a concrete strategy to counter US destabilization plans and demands for total war in the Tribal Regions, Pakistan has continued to sell the “good/bad Taliban” theme as a path to eventual “reconciliation,” putting distance between the two groups, so that heavy force could then be used to eliminate the criminal Taliban in successive operations. But each time that Pakistan made a little headway, lashkar leaders would be eliminated in car-bomb attacks, or by the occasional Predator drone.

Beginning with the massive drone assault in Bajaur, on October 30, 2006, which killed 80 religious students, drone attacks have become the favorite weapon for radicalizing locals and driving them into the eager arms of the Taliban. This is one of the reasons for believing that American leaders have always secretly supported the formation of militant armies, in order to have someone to fight and to provide valid-seeming reasons for prolonging the war. Everything they do creates more resistance.

The complex CIA schemes have forced Pakistan to develop its own ISI counter-schemes as a matter of self-defense against American demands to wreck the country and force the Pakistani people into open rebellion against their elected government. The ten-year deception in Pakistan has gone through many stages, fronted by many separate players, all of them having some stake in the Empire winning the contest. Today in Afghanistan we have an ongoing war, fueled by a series of major deceptions. The more obvious it becomes that the war is being lost, the more the deceptions will fall apart. At some point, the lies will fall apart faster than they can be reconstructed in a new form.

In Pakistan, we see at least ten times the number of major deceptions which we can see unwinding across the border. I guess that this is what they mean by an “intelligence driven war.” Every interested great power has a game at play now in Pakistan; every interested great power is double-gaming someone else, partners are being made to be cashed-in later, when it will bring the greatest advantage. Pakistan’s military, the “Establishment” and every one of the many “mafias” (land mafia, gas mafia, etc.) have their own separate games going on, all of them game off each other. Seeing daylight through this morass of webs of intrigue is almost an impossibility. It is not surprising that the game-players are having such a difficult time controlling the eventual outcome of this soon to be exploding psychological warfare experiment.

American mind-benders have playing their usual games and inventing a few new ones in their careful efforts to destabilize Pakistan without really upsetting the apple cart, losing control of the situation. It suits CIA and American military purposes to give the ISI enough rope to hang itself. This explains why they seem to go along with Pakistan’s generals, even when they are obviously lying or playing games to avoid causing a rupture in relations. In their international media campaign to embarrass the Pak Army and government, the media-masters are careful to go just so far in slandering them, but not far enough to force negative international reactions. US leaders understand the close relationship between the ISI and certain militant groups, but, until recently never charged the Army with supporting militants in public. Since open psychological war broke-out between the two sides in 2008 (SEE: US/Pakistan Showdown/Throwdown July12), they have maintained a love/hate relationship, creating difficult circumstances for fulfilling contracts and such. As far as the United States is concerned, Pakistan has a contractual obligation to help eliminate the “al-Qaeda” militants that the US and Pakistan have created together.

For these reasons, the CIA lets the ISI have its Lashkars and its “strategic depth” militants, preferring to seize the opportunity to use the controlled media to weave stories about the Wana battles into tales of “al-Qaeda,” the mythical international terrorist network. Beginning with the story about Mullah Nazir and his battle against the IMU terrorists of Abdullah and Baitullah Mehsud, CIA-sponsored Pakistani and Western reporters have invented stories of “good Taliban” turning against “al-Qaeda.” (The most reliable of these al-Qaeda story creators was Asia Times reporter Syed Saleem Shazad, the author of the Al-Qaeda/Taliban split story. Syed worked tirelessly, over several years to weave a tapestry out of whole cloth about the “al-Qaeda” monolith that stood astride the Durand Line, threatening the entire world with “Islamist terrorism.”).

Since its inception, the concept of “good Taliban vs bad Taliban has been fully implemented by both sides, although neither side could agree on whether the “bad Taliban” were those who attacked only Pakistan, or those who attacked only Afghan coalition targets. It seems that most of the time, there has been no Taliban who attacked both sides, except when the Pak Army gave in to American demands and turned its guns upon its friends. By cultivating peace treaties and non-aggression agreements with individual tribal groups, Pakistan had developed an equilibrium with the militants, and for short intervals, terror attacks seemed to have almost come to an end—until the Predator assassination campaign began, ultimately destroying any trust, driving tribal fighters by the thousands into the arms of the Taliban.

American drones have consistently targeted those militant leaders and outfits that the Pak Army has chosen to protect under the wing of its “strategic depth” concept. Both militant and lashkar leaders have fallen prey to drone missiles—the majority of them friends of the Army. The CIA has intensified the drone attacks as the administration upped the ante, demanding more and more that Pakistan dare not give, since national suicide is out of the question.

The big question then becomes then: Is Obama willing to accept a partial non-Haqqani offensive against the TTP, the mad dog killers of Col. Imam and Khalid Khawaja, in N. Waziristan, in place of an anti-Haqqani offensive? Of all the militant groups, the criminal gangs who have attached themselves to the psychopathic killer Hakeemullah Mehsud, heir to all that Baitullah stood for, are by far the most dangerous. The only explanation for such a grouping of monsters who have never attacked American or NATO troops, is that they consider them to be allies, or at least employers. If the US would support the elimination of these killers first, as a favor to our struggling ally, then perhaps Pakistan’s influence upon such “Taliban” as Haqqani can help bring the Afghan war to a resolution, if that is what Obama really wants.

If events follow the time-tested patterns of previous Pakistani offensives, then an operation in N. Waziristan would mean another flushing of refugees onto the roadways and trails of neighboring provinces (overwhelming limited social services wherever they come to rest, Pakistan already has more refugees than any other country). This will once again demonstrate Pakistan’s basic inability to carry-out the total war actions that the US is demanding from them. Pakistan doesn’t have either the manpower or the equipment needed to meet national disasters (just like most other nations), nor the capabilities required to eliminate an entrenched heavily armed insurgency. Will Obama accept this excuse for doing half of what he has demanded, just as Bush eventually did in the past?

The basis of the new great Show seems to be the “Waziristan Accords,” agreements between the Army and the Ahmadzai Wazirs of Mullah Nazir of the South and Uthmanzai Waziris in the North, led by Gul Bahadur. The agreement allegedly binds the tribes to police their own areas against Mehsuds or foreign terrorists. The antecedent to this Wazir option is the creation of multiple lashkars amongst the other tribes, even among the Mehsuds, if that is possible, considering the fate of the previous anti-Mehsud Mehsud leader, Qari Zainuddin Mehsud, that might prove to be impossible.

Pak plans to rope in tribals to take on al-Qaeda, according to the Indian press. If the plan really is to rebrand the Tehreek e-Taliban Pakistan as the new “al-Qaeda,” as the IMU Uzbeks once were, then this might put Pakistan’s generals and American generals on the same page. Once the offensive actually gets underway it will become obvious exactly who is on what page. Until then, we will have to get by on the delicious clues given us in Pakistan news leaks, or the latest militant attacks, to try to understand the mindset of the generals on both sides, who continue to run the show.

In light of recent events in S. Waziristan that are described below, it is possible to project the shape of the upcoming offensive: The Army goes after Hakeemullah Mehsud and the foreign terrorists under his protection, demanding from Haqqani lieutenant and local Wazir tribal leader Gul Bahadar that he fulfill his treaty commitments under the Waziristan Accords and actively suppress foreign terrorists, as well as the criminal Mehsuds, if they violate his territory, thus limiting the operating range of fleeing TTP militants (SEE: Pakistan Using Wazir Tribe of Mullah Nazir to Set-Up Next Psyop):

“The alleged 2007 agreement referred to in [that] report, between Nazir and the govt., allows the Army to wash its hands of the Wana region, making the tribes responsible for keeping-out Uzbeks, Mehsuds, Al-Qaeda and other foreign militants, an impossible task for the outgunned tribes.”

But this plan too, is being undermined by the government leaks that “telegraph” their next moves to the militants, raising lashkars for what is coming next, giving their friends there plenty of time to either prepare or relocate. It might be that the Army telegraphing its next moves gives Hakeemullah the same opportunity to flee the area before the battle, that it gives to Haqqani. It is here where the Army will rely upon the new Kurram Treaty to bring Haqqani into action against Hakeemullah in Kurram and perhaps in Hangu, Hakeemullah’s home turf, as well. We are already seeing an impending confrontation between the two groups over continued TTP attacks upon Shia, in spite of having signed the truce, thus endangering the fragile peace (SEE: Kurram Agency: Haqqani warns Hakimullah not to ‘sabotage’ peace deal):

“Things have now reached a very awkward point … Haqqani has said some very strong words to Hakimullah: ‘Stop it yourself or my men will make you stop it’.”

It may be that Haqqani also has a personal grudge to settle with Mehsud, over the murder of Col. Imam and Khalid Khawaja, who was highly respected by his father Jalaluddin and by all Afghan Taliban, since Mehsud refused to spare the old jihadi teacher’s life. If that is the case, then he may be more than willing to help-out the ISI clean-up the mess.

The timing of the events around Col. Tarar’s kidnapping and murder nearly one year later, help to confirm the “rogue” out of control status of Hakeemullah Mehsud, when compared to the Haqqanis. Ignoring all Haqqani, ISI, or Afghan Taliban pleas, Hakeemullah Mehsud gave the order to kill Col. Imam, which can be seen on YouTube.

His body was then dumped in the Danday Darpakhel area of Miramshah on January 23, 2011. This was clearly intended to serve as a challenge to Haqqani’s authority. On Jan. 27, CIA agent Raymond Davis shot two ISI agents dead in Lahore. The Haqqani-backed Kurram peace deal between the Turi tribe and Shia was struck ten days later, on February 3.

On Feb.7, 2010, top Taliban leaders were placed under protective custody (or arrest) in Pakistan, beginning with Taliban number two, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. As far as can be ascertained, the Mullahs were arrested to stop the previous attempt to initiate secret American/Taliban negotiations—that time they were with Mullah Omar’s actual second in command.

On 2/26/2010, Khalid Khwaja petitioned the Lahore High Court to block US efforts to have the arrested Taliban extradited to Afghanistan and into US custody.

One month later, 03/25/2010, former ISI agent Khwaja was abducted, along with Col. Imam and the British journalist Asad Qureshi, in North Waziristan. They were allegedly in Waziristan at the insistence of retired generals Beg and Gul, trying to interview Sirajuddin Haqqani and Wali-ur Rahman Mehsud.

“The Asian Tiger organization… offered to release them in exchange for three important Afghan Taliban figures — Mulla Abdul Ghani Biradar, Mulla Abdul Kabir and Mansoor Dadullah — presently ‘in the custody of the Pakistan government’. The group didn’t even know that Kabir wasn’t, in fact, in detention in Pakistan.”

Khalid Khwaja was found dead in Miranshah on April 30, 2010. Qureshi was ransomed.

The Murder of Col Imam was a turning point for several parties, in many areas of their relationships. The fact that Hakeemullah ignored pleas from fellow Islamist Sirahuddin Haqqani, as well as the ISI, confirms the split between the Pakistani Taliban group and the ISI-supported Afghan Taliban. Hakeemullah Mehsud and his TTP followers, especially the IMU Uzbeks and the just as radical Punjabi recruits of the Lashkar e-Jhangvi are a criminal/terrorist menace and must be eliminated from Pakistan. The US military has no intention of helping the Pak Army with this formidable task, such as focusing drone attacks first upon this criminal network, even though it would be a simple task, even considered as an obligation to help an ally and old friend. The American military is only interested in those fighters in Pakistan who wage war on NATO, not those who choose to fight against Pakistan. Reciprocity might be the better choice over issuing demands and making ultimatums to Pakistan’s generals.

Col Imam was a bitter critic of the United States which, he said, had left the Afghan mujahideen in the lurch after the defeat of the Soviet forces in the late 1980s. The CIA hated Imam and the Pakistani Taliban hated him. When he went to N. Waziristan he was carrying a list of 14 Taliban leaders who worked for India and probably the US. That list ended-up in Hakeemullah’s hands. His name was alleged at the top of the list. Perhaps that was why he had to die.

From the Pakistani press comes the claim that Col. Imam and Khalid Khawaja may have been killed by Ilyas Kashmiri, as revenge for his being tortured by the Army in 2003 for trying to kill Musharraf. Other elements of the national press claim that the pair were killed for calling the Afghan Taliban mujahedeen and the Pakistani Taliban criminals.

If that was the case then it would justify Pakistan setting Kashmiri up for a drone kill in Wana on June 3. Unlike the surreptitious drone whacking of Baitullah Mehsud (where ISI allegedly tricked the CIA into striking Baitullah), it appears that a potential joint effort to get Kashmiri may have been conceivable, considering Headley’s testimony about Kashmiri’s connections to the Mumbai attack, made Ilyas Kashmiri an embarrassment for both sides. Like always, in this tortuously slow dance between Pakistani and American leaders, that has been grinding-on for decades now, at times it is impossible to tell whether the two sides are in almost perfect step with each other, whether they are hopelessly out of sync, or even at times, whether they are moving at all. Judging by today’s deadly drone strike on Haqqani forces in Kurram, it seems like they might be at odds with each others plans. Recent reports have revealed that the US is attempting to draw Ibrahim Haqqani into negotiations, even though US drones continue to strike Haqqani targets in Kurram Agency.

Can the Obama team accept Pakistan’s revised game plan and spin it in an effective manner, so that it will fool the yokels back home, even after all the yelling that they have done over North Waziristan? Or is the great game suddenly no longer about maintaining the illusion? Has the American/NATO position deteriorated so far down that they must force a “game-changer” upon us all? Have run up against so many walls that we have given-up entirely upon the American vision for Afghanistan and Pakistan as the new international strategic corridor, the new “Silk Road” to Central Asia? Is the new intent to simply so destabilize the region that no one else can reap the economic rewards?

There are many good questions here that no one wants to touch, or to see answered. The questions will answer themselves in short order, whenever it becomes apparent whether Obama opts for Pakistan’s pacification or for its destabilization. Will he maintain and escalate the state of confrontation until it leads to widespread violence between two old allies, or will he choose to calm things down in Pakistan, even as he risks revealing the American hand and long-term plans for moving into Central Asia?

Perhaps the most important part of this whole new (recycled) psyop is that the Tehreek e-Taliban Pakistan will now play the role of “Al-CIAda” (SEE: The CIA/ISI Soap Opera In South Waziristan) for the remainder of this drama....
